2-cycle oil ratios?

Though this runs contrary to an earlier post, I do believe that running more oil than prescribed makes the engine run leaner and be more likely to detonate. Running less oil makes an engine more likely to seize due to inappropriate lubrication.

Why not mark your tools and tanks prominently and use the proper mixture...give the carb what it's designed to atomize...get the manufacturer's expected performance...properly lubricate?

I have a sting trimmer that calls for 16;1, a chainsaw that calls for 32:1, a Mantis tiller and another string trimmer that calls for 50:1
I run them all at 50:1.

Seems a lot do the same... one modern 50 to 1 mix and good to go.

Don't do it in your vintage stuff.... you'll have no way of measuring any wear in the engine until its too late. Let's face it, not too many people on TBN have 70+ year old two-strokes. You want to be the guinea pig?

Because the issue is having too many gas cans sitting around and how to get it down to fewer cans. ;)

I think the issue is folk not planning their purchases. Anytime I shop for a piece of 2 cycle hardware I make sure it uses the same gas as other stuff I have. I have two cans of 2 cycle fuel. If storing 2 cans is too much hassle I really feel sorry for you. If you need more than two cans, I think you are a bad planner.

How to get it to fewer cans is to retire the worst of the worst and plan future purchases accordingly.

It could be a California thing...

The only 2 cycle equipment available to purchase is 50 to 1 mix... no way around that and it has been this way for a long time.

I take care of my equipment... thus I have old cars and old 2 cycle motors still growing strong.

The Echo SRM300 I paid $375 for in 1982 is 20 to 1.

My Craftsman Power Sharp Saw circa 1972 is was over $250 and is 16 to 1.

Just because technology changes doesn't mean something bought at great cost 30 years ago isn't still doing the job...

My question was more about wanting to know if the lubrication properties for the new mixes is such that less can be used safely...

Gasoline gets old here and having 6 containers of different mixes does pose it's own problems... and more because I don't have that many non-carb gas cans!

Did you even read the original poster's comments as to why he has so many mixtures???

You're absolutely correct. You either pay for things to become simplified or you deal with them as they are. If you want the convenience of one or two cans, you gotta pay for it. Running the wrong mix is not a solution like so many are claiming it to be...

Yes, I have, but my comment (as shown by the quote in my post) was directed at a comment MossRoad (you) had said.

You said "how to get to fewer cans" to which my reply was "plan the future purchases"
