Sodo, can you explain this a little better please? Because what I got was that "tractor forum" welding does not require good penetration? Huh? I don't mean to attack you, but I sure disagree with that statement if that is what you said.

I can answer that one for you.
He has hobby welded for 40+years. His experience in the profession of welding allows him a certain assurance that his welds will never fail and are more than adequate for any repairs or fabrication projects he might take on. He doesnt need even a basic etch test to know that his welds are "Good Enough" He has never had any of his welds tested, but nobody has been killed, Yet, because one of his welds failed. Testing is a waste of time and does nothing to improve ones welding skills. Testing welds has no place in real world welding and should be left to only professionals that make a living welding.
