Can you still pull off a geared tractor and crank it?

Saw a Kubota L3600 for sale and the guy said he had no key for it so the price was low. It was a regular gear-drive with mechanical injectors. With one rear wheel jacked up an inch off the ground and trans in 4th, just pulling on the top of the lifted tire would start it right up.

3-Point Hitch PTO problem with Kubota L345

I'm assuming your issue is similar in that it stopped working while running a rear mower? Can we also assume you have no drive in one pto lever position but no drive in the other? If so, there are likely broken gear teeth inside the pto section of the tractor - requiring a split at that...

    L2900 GST Shifting Problem

SUDT (or UDT before that) is quite low-viscosity high-priced fluid. If there's a viscosity problem, its more likely that the fluid put in was not SUDT but a cheaper oil of some kind ?

    Kubota L4850

Depending on how heavily you will use this tractor, just installing inner tubes might be a way to go. Many rusted rims are still quite strong and safe to use, even if not air-tight. 28" rims & centers are getting rare and ex$pensive.

Back when my computer had a hand crank, there was a thing called the Kubota Board.......where user input was handled over the net - whoah! I remember using that for some years before Muhammad started TBN. My join date says 2000 but a lot of us were here a while before that.

    It won't move

CORRECTION - and apologies! I now realize that the L4600H Kubota uses a modified version of their mechanically controlled HST WITHOUT solenoid control of F & R motion. It uses a hydraulic regulator valve to control speed, with direction selected mechanically by the foot pedal linkage tilting...

    It won't move

Just saw this - the HST in that tractor is controlled by solenoid valves under the floorboard. Look for a loose or disconnected plug or some such. There's likely a fuse too. Could be simple. The older HST's were strictly mechanical/hydraulic so repair can get spendy - but electric control...

Busted bellhousing on Kubota B series

I'm coming late to this discussion - the OP said the clutch rattled - but did not say the tractor fell in half - just a couple bell housing holes had broken out. The housing is ductile die-formed mild steel, easily weldable. For now I'd suggest a low cost repair - putting a temporary brass (or...

    L48 no forward or reverse

Readers may wonder how this turned out - the OP has verified in pm's the pto does not engage and spin when the engine is running - which points to a non-working main clutch (or failed pto over-running coupling). Loader and other hydraulics seem to function normally. Another thing to check...

    Hydrostat pedal dampner

These 2-way dampers wear out and stop working in one direction, then both. They're important because they soften the pressure spike inside the hst when F-R shifts are abrupt.
  18. rbargeron

    L48 no forward or reverse

Does your steering still operate easily and smoothly left-to-right-to left with the tractor running but not moving? If its jerky the front-most pump may have a suction leak - which could make the hst stop shifting F - R. Check (tighten) the connections at the pump.

    L48 no forward or reverse

There's a discussion about similar symptoms here that might give you some ideas. Did you replace the front-most pump (steering) or the one right behind it (main hydraulics)? Reason I ask is the HST's charge pump gets oil from the steering return line - if there's a loose fitting there or on...

    L48 no forward or reverse

    L48 HST issue

Your spring looks usable - anchor point doesn't look too fancy - just a fixed tie-off. It's pull strength isn't critical. The hydraulic damper is spring-centered too. The bent attachment tab is soft steel and should survive careful straightening. Dick B.

    L2250 shifter failure

These tractors use a single shuttle lever for going forward or reverse while in 1st thru 7th - but R is blocked in 8th. WSM page below shows the power flow. The shuttle parts are forward of the Hi-Lo section. Its a lot to digest in one look, especially since the drawings don't clearly show...

How to gently remove the top of the transmission on L2250?

I think the term that won't be effective here is "gently". In those years (and maybe now too) Kubota used some very tenacious adhesive sealant - its like an epoxy-very tough. Pick locations where the cast iron is thickest. Make sure nothing else is still holding it - like an overlooked bolt...

Hydraulic block and Westendorf loader T25 valve

In answer to the OP's question, he's already done the right thing. On seven-hose loader valves I've seen with power-beyond, the power-beyond sleeve is in the valve, not in the hydraulic block. Hydraulic flow for the 3-point goes through a hydraulic block. If a loader is not installed the screw...

    l4610 hst pedal adjustments

    Kubota L48....stiff steering?

First, try BLEEDING any air from the steering system by raising the front wheels, speeding up the engine, turning the steering wheel slowly full stroke both ways a few times. The steering gets oil from the front chamber of the dual front pump, driven by a shaft from the engine. If the other...

    The GST Transmission

    L4150DT Hydraulic Shuttle "slipping"

Good news - I really believe in the L3 models, but as the earlier ones get past 40 years old, there will be more worn-out parts needing attention. In this case it looks like the dry clutch was worn and slipping - and somebody worked on the wet-clutch valve instead, making things worse. Good...

    Glow plug question

My glow light was coming on, maybe going off, maybe not. Engine started fine. I read about it on OTT and TBN - symptom set seemed to point to the controller. Good guess because a new one cured it. I bought one that was around $70 - I see they are all over the map now - some around $35, some...

    L48 ignition bypassing glow plug

Just noticed you're in VA - an L48 should start with no help from the glow system - sounds like fuel isn't flowing when it just cranks Agree with K5lwq - the stop solenoid (part 190 on attached) has to be powered and working for fuel to flow. Try feeling the stop solenoid while somebody turns...

    Miss 2 speed pto

The 2-speed rear pto's (6-spline) I'm familiar with have a L-N-H pto shift lever. The rpm choices are usually 540 or 780. On big tractors and implements the pto shafts for 540 rpm can get huge and heavy. Operating torque at higher rpm is lower for the same power - so the industry's next step...

    Miss 2 speed pto

In the '80s Kubota L345's had 2-speed pto's. The early L3 models had them but they became scarce in the 90's. They have recently made a bit of a comeback on bigger machines, offering a more fuel-efficient pto speed option. Some related reading here on adding it back to the '91-'97 Kubota L3...

    L48 ignition bypassing glow plug

I've noticed you've described it a few times as.. "and it just tries to turn over but doesn't." Does this mean the starter turns the engine but it doesn't fire and run? Or does it mean the starter only clicks?

    L48 ignition bypassing glow plug

The problem comes and goes, right? They're the toughest to isolate. The starting circuit is sometimes getting an unintended ground somewhere in the wiring. A long shot is corrosion or shorting wires inside the solenoid on the starter.

    L48 ignition bypassing glow plug

Attached are pages from the L48 WSM with the start system wiring diagram and its functions. The symptoms point to the glow relay and/or the controller. The controller is known to fail so I'd look there first. See post #4 for a link to new ones - several under $40. Please post back on what...

Are you saying that your starter turns when the key is only in the first position? The L48 glow plug system has a controller & relay. With key ON, glow plugs run for the right time, based on temperature. Key at START runs the starter. My glow light was only brief & would come back on when...

    Thoughts on L4150 TLB

Kosmo - Don't feel bad for missing it - Babe Ruth had the strike-out record too - he swung at a lot of pitches. Hey Kosmo, back on your question, I had a L4150 for a few years. That price seems high, especially with high time on it. It was a great product when new, but a lot can happen in 3400 hours. The L4150 is a very good tractor - big bones, great build quality, smooth 5-cylinder engine. The...

At 1400 hours that L3710 may be getting worn tires if your yard is paved - but other than that its fine for another 20 years at least, assuming normal maintenance. Maybe squirt some fluid film on the sheet metal and under the floor mat if it lives outside. Kubotas last a long time - their...

    L5412 side swing chain adjustment

The L5412 backhoe is actually a re-badged Bradco. It has chain swing to move the weight in closer for better bucket down-force out front. Here's an owner's manual - page 27 covers adjustment. Tightening the ends of the chain should reduce the slop. Air in the cylinder can cause slop too...

First check the fluid level - how many hours on the HST filter? (replaced at 50?) With go pedal at midpoint does it tend to creep backward on level ground? I have no steep going so I move snow in 4wd with chains on just the front. If its extra slippery, the added bite keeps it on course and moving. Helps when backing uphill too (lifted blower). Regardless of where the chains are, driving on the road between jobs is in 2WD.

Our L5450's LA1150 loader has the 70" bucket. It has a rounded back & you can stack lots of wood in/on it, with a row at the front and more behind. You'll like the strength of the loader - with filled tires it lifts cars without the back getting light.

I've seen several posts saying DupliColor Chevy engine orange is a good match - but I want to paint my 3ph seven-foot snowblower. That would take a lot of spray cans so I went to the local Sherwin Williams store to see what they could do. I brought a sample orange part. The computer didn't...

    Rake Buying a Rake

Matt - I have a 7' rake with wheels (Camco brand) that I never use - very similar to this one (almost as shiny) - tires are pneumatic - 3" wide. Sent you an email. $300 loaded into your pickup. (Appologies to all for the shameless commerce - but Matt needs a rake !)

    Drag blade for rear-mount snowblower

My 7 foot snowblower does a good job in most situations except backing up to a garage door or a parked car - it always leaves a little pile of snow in the middle area. Here's a solution I'm experimenting with. It's a SnoWay lexan blade with steel frame, mounted on aluminum arms and with a...

    Mowing  houly rates for mowing?

I'm hoping to get the current thinking of the membership about an age-old question. How much to charge for mowing the neighbors' land. I use a 59 hp Kubota with a 90" Woods finish mower - with obstacles and tight spots it averages 1 to 2 acres an hour. If I add up all the costs (even without...

    Another $80 Winter "Cab"

Another $80 Winter \"Cab\" This idea has been posted by others in the past - but it worked out so well on my rig I wanted to post a couple pictures. The "cab" is a 4-sided golf cart enclosure - about $80 and widely available from eBay, golf supply places, etc. My tractor already had the...

Major structural failure on L4610 - ouch !!

This is a L4610 with about 600 hours, that was skidding out some logs using a 3-pt hitch skidding winch. The 3-pt ram housing broke off taking the back of the main gear housing with it. This happened in past couple days - don't have complete information yet. This machine also has a Kubota...

    60 hp Kubota at TraderOnline

For anyone thinking of an L5030, L48 or M4900/M5700 size machine, there is a Kubota L5450 in Texas listed for sale HERE - Not mine, no affiliation, etc. etc. but it seems to be an attractive price for a very strong tractor. I'm a real fan of this L3 series. Five cylinders, silky shuttle...

    Two-Speed PTO Modification for M4900 and M5700

I posted a couple years ago about adding a 2-speed pto to my L5450, so it has selectable 540 and 750 rpm speeds. At the time I didn't know if this modification might be possible on other models too - but it may be. I was looking at Kubota's Australia website today, where they describe the...

    Snowblowing as Art?

My wife took this picture today - she has a good eye for composition. More snowblowing shots here.

    Block Heater Works Great !

I finally got around to installing a Kubota block heater in my L5450. The job went well but I didn't think to take any pics. For anybody thinking about putting in a block heater, here are some details: (hope I'm not wasting bandwidth by repeating somebody) Kubota's heater turns in to a...

    Must be Spring !!

Well I just got sick of waiting for the snow to come, so the blower is off and the backhoe is on for some field rock removal. During one bout of cabin fever, a Tel-Trax canopy was added. Nice rugged unit. Mounted it low so it would clear the door openings around here - plenty of headroom...

    Kioti 2554 w/ FEL , 131 hours

I was driving by Brookside Equipment in Athol, MA yesterday - noticed that they have a Kioti 2554 4wd with loader, folding rops, and 131 hours on the meter. They're asking $10,500. Paint's a little faded (not the chassis -it's bright shiny blue). Isn't this price near what a new one could be...

Snowblower  Anybody know who made this snowblower?

The picture shows my L5450 with a pull-type snowblower I've had for years. But when somebody asks what kind of blower it is, I'm stumped. I bought it used from a neighbor, the decal is faded and there's no nameplate. I'm sure it's more than 20 years old. Does anyone know about this...
