Stihl vs Husqvarna

We used to have a local mower sales place that sold Stihl and had a decent repair shop. They closed and now we have Ace Hardware and the John Deere dealer that sells them but I don’t think they really fix them. Husky is sold at a local farm store but I’m not impressed with their repair shop.

Our Ace hardware also sold them until recently. When I asked the manager why they stopped selling them, he said because Stihl was yanking the contract away from anyone without a service center.

I don't get hung up on what brand is better, because each has good saws and some bad. I focus on what saw of each brand are best...

For this scenario...the 562 is a better saw.

The stihl 362 is kind of a turd, but it's predecessor the 361...may be one of the finest saws ever made. I have a few still in the box as spares.

Stihl 261 Pro saw is one well built unit. Do you need the larger saw?

I inherited my FIL Husky 20" bar can't remember the model. He used it almost daily in the 80's-90's as he heated his hot water and the house with wood. I use it about 1/2 a dozen times a year. Hoping I can leave it to my son when I am no longer able to wield it.

I buy premade chains once every few years sharpening in between if I touched some dirty wood. I have a round file I use most of the time for the touch ups but if I don't feel I get a cut edge on it I will resort to a dremel type sharpener.

I own and use both Stihl and Husqvarna pro saws. I like the Husqvarna's better. It seems for any comparable size saw, the Husky always smokes the Stihl.

I own a 562XP MK2 and absolutely love that saw.
I'm pausing on the Stihl 400 to have a look at one of those. It's hundreds cheaper.
I've owned dozens of saws, but no Huskys. Maybe this is the one to try?

I think you will really like the 362. I run a sugi hara 20" bar on mine most of the time and it balances perfectly.

The 400 is going away and will be replaced by the 400.1 which will be dropping down to 60cc and have an aluminum piston like the 500i.
