Will UAW Strike?

The majority of UAW members that work in the vehicle assembly plants drive products from the company that employ them. Some of them do have genuine pride and loyalty. I have friends that are second and third generation at the same company, and they're strict about staying in the fold.

One of my best friends never worked at anything auto-related but is strictly a GM guy because his dad worked for and retired from GM. He says GM provided the means for a good childhood and a good retirement for his dad. That's what he wants to support.
I think the “employee discount” is the reason for said pride and loyalty as much as anything……

I remember seeing signs at the Arlington GM plant employee parking saying "GM vehicles only" next to the plant. Other makes had to park across the street and take the skybridge. I haven't been by there recently to see if they still exist.

Here is an article in Autoblog from 2006:

Following in the footsteps of some of their brethren working in Ford plants, union workers who drive GM vehicles to work at the GM assembly plant in Arlington, Texas will now receive preferential parking spots. The policy started on Monday.

“We have to support the company that gives us paychecks,” said spokesperson Wendy Sabo. “We do that by buying the vehicles we produce.”

The policy was implemented after GM plant managers, who surveyed the employees, found eighty-five percent supported such a parking policy. According to the article and Sabo, it is strictly for the Arlington plant: there is no widespread corporate policy from the automaker. However, she acknowledge, such local rules are being discussed at other GM plants.

I’ve heard the Fort Wayne GM truck plant have the same rules but I’m not sure, I do not see any signage from the highway that proves it

I'm curious what UAW members drive? Don't have any here so don't know.

As for battery banks don't forget they come with tax credits... dare I say some people I know hate PGE and every dollar they don't send to PGE provides personal satisfaction... so a win/win.

I'm probably one of the undesirables in that I send electricity to the grid every day from my very old 6kW array.

When all said and done I find I average between $300-$400 check from utility each year which easily covers the $15 monthly meter charge.

It's the water bill that is killing me...

I was away for work a few weeks and asked a neighbor to.water... and water he did... instead of my average summer 325 gallons per day it was 750 gallons per day over 59 days and cost close to $900... ouch.
My mother in-law is retired from the UAW. She drove Toyota Sienna for about 15 years. She got rid of it a couple years ago for a small Buick Encore.

My BIL, the Fords exec, drives a Toyota Matrix of all things. Of course he has to park at the back of the parking lot per Fords rules.
