BTW, even though I have a very nice chipper and will use it when weather conditions, location or small size of project warrant, I will absolutely burn if burning is an option long before I would consider chipping. A tractor with a grapple and a match in your pocket is a very small fraction of the work it would otherwise be to chip.

I'm with you on that one usually. For me I have a need for wood chips for trails I am putting in and for other situations that might need wood chips. Besides that, there are burning restrictions that are somewhat a pain. Burning can only happen before 9am and after 5pm unless the fire hazard is high in which case you can't burn at all. I can burn at any time if there is full snow cover for a 100' radius or continuous rain. You also have to buy a burn permit which is only good for a week. It's not much money but still. I have found only a handful of times where the stars align and I had enough time to burn a decent amount since I've had to do all of the dragging and piling on the pile by hand. Looking forward to getting my forks and eventually a grapple. They will make a big difference there for sure.

I had and sold a Jinma 6" pto driven chipper, I ran behind my M9000 with 92 pto horses which is real overkill. I was just careful about what I stuffed into the chipper and kept the drive belts tight and pillow blocks greased. Sold it a couple years ago for exactly what I paid for it.

I prefer roasting limbs rather than dealing with wood chips. Besides, I'm a pyro.
