78F and sunny @ 10:30, HI 79F, DP 70 ... calling for a high of 91F today.

Yesterday did not go entirely as planned.

The Woman wanted to clean up that northwest planting bed, although it really wasn't that bad ... so I indulged her ... ;)

She pulled weeds and set out more hostas, filling a few spots where they didn't make for some reason or another. I got it about 80% watered, will have to finish that up today.

Ended up using around 100 gallons of water but I also watered all the hostas we put out around the big maple up by the shop, the lilac bush up there, the 2nd largest oak along the driveway, plus the gingko tree and a crabapple in the lower front.

Also gave that rhododendron I cleaned up and pruned a good drink. (12.5 gallons)

Tank is refilled and there is another 65 gallons ready to go. Hope to use that to water/feed the rhododendrons and azaleas in the northeast planting bed today.

Cleaned up the debris from that area, along with the debris from the soon to be new planting area on the east side of the frog pond and hauled that up to the compost pile.

And hauled six or so loads of screened compost back down for that planting bed.

Gathered up another bucketload of leaves and debris from around the dying maple on the east side of the house and took it to the compost pile.

Cleaned out the planting bed area on the west side of the house behind the forsythia and hauled that up to the compost pile, hosta we got from our friends seems to be doing well, but the Woman swears there were more of them:

She wants the arborvitae there moved to another area, since it isn't doing all that well. I have to agree that it probably could stand to be in an area that gets more sun. Not sure exactly when we might tackle that.

Earlier I managed to get the lawn roller connected up to the Cub (it was full of water) and took it up and emptied it around the largest oak tree behind the shop along the driveway. Discovered that it is not a good idea to disconnect the lawn roller from whatever you're pulling it around with it, because getting it hooked back is a PITA (it weighs 920 lbs when it's filled)

Last evening we got the garden and all the potted stuff watered before knocking off.

After that I did some raking in the second circle and gathered up the debris from there (and the northwest planting bed) and hauled that up to the compost pile.

Last item on the list was hauling the trash and recyclables up to the cans at the road.

She's barking about getting out there right now, so I got to get moving ...

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

70°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 95° today. No fog this morning. Going to be hot for the next couple of days.

Storms popped up all over the area yesterday afternoon. The one that hit north STL city just as I was leaving work was a gully-washer. Been awhile since I've seen that much rain fall in such a short amount of time. Of course, the fact that everything in the city is paved over makes it even worse. Everything floods. I had to wait for a trash can to float by before I could exit the parking lot. By the time I got home, I'd gotten ahead of the storms. We got lots of noise and dark skies, but only a few drops of rain, as it all bypassed us.

Ended up staying up way too late last night playing around in the studio. Productive time, though.

Great to hear from you, David. Happy is good.

I always used a variation of the "stick method" for guestimating tree height, using a builder's square or even a piece of paper folded into a right triangle and held at at eye level.

Rich, I feel your pain. I've had stuff in a storage facility since The Wife and I got married eight years ago. We also keep saying we're going to get rid of most of it (stuff from my house that we didn't need) and downsize to a smaller space in the barn, mostly for my music equipment, but we have yet to build that space.

68°F snd .95 inches rain.

Get to try something new today, concrete floor leveler. The bathroom floor is the result of 4 different concrete pots of various ages and not all die with the idea that it would be tiled some day. Leveling should result in a bit more uniform surface. We’ll see.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Rearranged the valves between the two tanks so the deep well pump could force water to the top tank drain line. The water pressure gauge immediately began to creep up, so I took a walk up the trench to make sure there were no leaks in the lines. When I got to the upper tank, there was lots of gurgiling noises coming from the riser out of the bottom of the trench. The air was being forced up into the tank, making bubbles. We'll see if the pump will run long enough to get them all out before the well dries out, but it looks like I've confirmed that air in the drain line is the problem. I just wonder why pumping from the water truck didn't take care of it.

Maybe the water truck pumped had some air in its lines, especially toward the end of the pumping. ??

all my visits done, lot of walking touring two different senior care facilities, the one at Pine Run is like a country club.
Too expensive for me. Nice visits with aging MIL, glad she is doing ok after moving in only two weeks ago. Her place was modest and
nicely furnished with her own furniture, and she just glowed about her giant walk in closet. All good.

92 out, going to be really hot and humid for next four days.
headed out to mow lawn, it's all weedeated, I just have to drive the mower and not get stuck
in the water ditch...

successfully made Moderna booster shot appt for tomorrow morning. Will be interesting to see what the effect of that is.

Could be, but he had to stop pumping with about a quarter tank left. Said he couldn't overcome the pressure in the line.😵 Yet only a few minutes before, he told us how he had fun with a guy on the end of a hose by upping the pressure to the point that the hose got away from the guy and soaked him. I asked him if he could just increase the RPMs on the engine, and he didn't think that was a safe thing to do as he had no pressure gauge on his truck. Which is why I put a gauge on the line, in case there's a next time with him.

Pressure seems to have settled at about 21 PSI when the well went dry. I'll see what happens when I turn it back on for the evening session of pumping.

Makes perfect sense. Air in the column does not add weight to push up psi. You need a bleeder valve like an impala v6 engine. LOL.

Hope your deep well holds up.

Happy Anniversary PJ and wifey!

My wife and I will have been married 20 years tomorrow. Taking the whole family to the steakhouse.

A guy from the city called me and told me they have the tennis court lights fixed now. Maybe try them out Thursday or Friday. It's hot. Hard to get motivated.

Got encouraging news on my buddy (who's on the ventilator). His O2 numbers are getting better, as they reduce the O2 administered. He's under sedation. I selfishly hope he comes back to work soon....I have electric motor questions for him. He's a MacGuyver type. Prayers are being answered.

Prayers for our Team! And for America!

80F and clear @ 21:00, high hit 90.9F today ... and it was warm out there. Nonetheless, we were out in it all day long (except for lunch and dinner breaks)

Started off doing a little further clean up on the east bed along the woods.

When I went up to take a bucketload to the compost pile I noticed that the backside of the shop was all in shade so I suggested to The Woman that we head up there and get that weeded while the sun and heat wasn't so bad. She was on board ... mainly because she knew how easy the weeds come up.

We got that pretty well cleaned out and I added more composted soil to the bed after lunch but didn't complete that as the sun had moved around to where I would have to be standing in the sun to complete it. Hosta seems to be doing very well, soil very moist despite not having been watered lately other than rain:

(Hopefully get that wall pressure-washed in the next couple of days and then the bed will get mulched)

We took a break in there for lunch as I mentioned and she ran out to Jimmy John's and grabbed us a couple of sandwiches. We ended up splitting one, which was plenty given the heat.

Post lunch I went downstairs and refilled the hopper, two sunflower tube, and one suet feeder.

After the bed on the back side of the shop we moved over to the circle around the big maple tree and weeded that - which went quick because there wasn't much. After that we started mulching it.

When I went to maneuver on the east side to dump a bucketload of mulch, there were some logs on the ground that were in my way ... so I dropped the box blade a little and backed up to where I was straight on to where I wanted to dump. That was followed by The Woman dancing around and frantically waving her arms. Glad someone was paying attention.

Apparently there was a yellow jacket nest back there somewhere and they did not appreciate the disturbance:

Fortunately no one got stung ... (y)

Since we were mostly done at that point and she was pretty hot, she decided to head down to the house and start dinner (Thai Chicken in a peanut sauce)

I did a little more work on it and then headed down myself. Still need to mulch around the individual plants, but the outside ring and up against the tree are done:

IMG_1283 copy.jpg

After we ate dinner we headed back out and I dropped the bucket and put the pallet forks on and grabbed the pallet with the full 65 gallon tank of water.

First stop was the rhododendron I had pruned yesterday. We gave that another 2.5 gallons with 2.5 teaspoons of what used to be called Mir-Acid (now Miracle Grow for Acid-loving Plants)

Then we hit the hosta around the maple tree (pictured above), that got another 7 watering cans (17.5 gallons)

Finally we hit the hosta I didn't get watered yesterday on northwest planting bed to finish it. That required a little "night ops" ... because it was at the point where ya literally couldn't see to water anything :

Now all that's left is to go down and feed the fish and grab a shower.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

The LevelQuik from HD was great. As with many things the prep work was more than the actual application. Once prepped and primed I mixed up 2 bags. Had found a YouTube video where the guy just poured and let it level, no special tools. I almost did that, just using a garden rake to move a bit toward my edges. Estimating about a 1/4 inch layer.

After 4 hours it was walkable, but I used a 2x6 to bridge into shower and applied 1st coat of Redgard.
