I am sorry to hear about your sister missing the Salk vaccine. I think as you well know, polio is a different virus. The damage is life long and debilitating.
Covid (so far) is pretty much a bad virus, and 99% chance you live, without lifelong debilitating physical affects ( there could be life long affects, but so far it looks like a full recovery).
Would much rather have Covid (I did) than Polio.

Wife and I have gotten 2 Moderna shots with only arm pain. We are now bullet proof but wear masks and social distance out of respect for our fellow humans. I am hitting the road tomorrow to visit my older sister whom I have not seen for a year. She got polio back when she was 4 years old and before there was a vaccine. When the vaccine happened anyone with common sense and those who witnessed the carnage of polio lined up with arms ready. I have watched my sister deal with the polio all her life and new symptoms still appear at times. She is a hero in my mind for the courage she has shown dealing with polio. I think getting the covid vaccine is a personal choice but an easy one for me.

Sure sounds familiar. We, too, have gotten the 2 Moderna shots, and like you, still wear our masks, etc. And, like your sister, I had polio when I was 22 months old and the doctors didn't even know what it was. Dad said the doctor simply told them, "He's gonna die". I guess I was 7 years old when they took me to the "Crippled Children's Hospital" in Oklahoma City and the doctors asked, "When did he have polio?" That was the first time they knew what I'd had. Anyway, a year or two of twice daily exercises that didn't help, 6 weeks in the hospital and one major surgery the first time, one week and one more minor surgery the second time, and I can tell you that I was one of the lucky ones, compared to so many I saw in the hospital.

So yep, years later I got the polio vaccine on a sugar cube, later a shot. My wife and I get flu shots EVERY year, we've both had both kinds of the Shingles vaccinations, both kinds of pneumonia vaccinations, etc. I respect individual choice, but I know what that choice will always be for me.

My wife and I have appts this Thursday for the Moderna. Was hoping for the Pfizer doses based on anecdotal reports from family and friends that have already been vaccinated but I am not going to quibble. Thursday is the first day for WA residents over 60 w/o high risk conditions to qualify for the jab.

Kudos to my wife in getting us in ASAP. Yes, still bitter about prisoners being higher priority than me.

Oh and on polio... my wife's mother suffered from polio for most of her life.

The Mrs and myself received first pfizer shot last Friday. Very little side effects in either of us. Process was very smooth and first week for 50-64yo's. Kudos to the military reserves that took care of us

I got the AstraZeneca first shot March 20 because that was the first one that became available. No side effects at all.

Here in Canada, the second shot is now being delayed (3-4 months), and I read that it will be more effective because of the delay. Works for me!

Meanwhile, the Yanks are “lending” us 1.5 million doses if AstraZeneca. Not sure why, but surprisingly it is not yet approved for use in the States!

I, personally, know of several people who had covid and treated it with ivermectin with no ill effects. It is a shame that since it is a cheap, commonly used drug that does not require a prescription, that major drug companies will do no study on it or recommend it because there is no profit in its use.

Where did they get Ivermectin? How much is the dose? I use Ivermectin to worm my horses, but I'm reluctant to consume leftover horse wormer.

This is a cure, not a preventative.

The best and purest form of ivermectin to use is 1% cattle injectable ivermectin. It is a liquid and you use it orally, you do not inject it. You can Google where to buy it for as little as $25.

But you should still get vaccinated.

Well 1/2 my daughters college field hockey team is being sent home to "quarantine" for 10 days....a teammate contact-traced 1/2 the women on the team. She exposed them to the virus on Friday. Now I got 2 kids home again. She can return to college in probably 9-10 days. Takes classes virtually from home. Bringing teammate from the UK with her to stay with us.
Im not concerned about them having Covid or bringing it home, because both of them had it back in January.

Son's Wife drove to Cleveland for work, meetings with some exec from NYC. They put in a good first day and he called to say he felt symptomatic, cancelled the next two days with her, and left for home. Mike was doing meetings from home and hadn't seen the text to expect her soon. He was startled mid-aftrnoon to hear someone coming in the house with a key, lol.

Heather's not showing/feeling symptoms yet but I think I've convinced him/her to take the first vaccine they can. If she's caught anything I told him her first shot would be the most difficult. As DINKs (dub'l income, no kids) they're both managers and can work from home.

btw, funny that they had just got off a cruise ship last year before tourists were quarantined on most all of them. (A Neice was stranded on Easter Island for six months, got back in Dec '20) Son & Wife had just spent a month in Florida working remotely but no exposure. So back in Toledo Heather goes to one meeting (long) and now has to quarantine. He's sleeping downstairs just in case.

Around here, if you admit you have been exposed to someone who tested positive, you cannot get the vaccine for 14 days after exposure and you must test negative.

Heather can find out through work if the fella tested positive or just got too drunk the night before while out of town. I wonder if she has to wait 14 days from possible exposure to be tested herself. Mike would have to wait too since she was home within 24 hrs and if she's a 'possible' so is he.

Received the AstraZeneca jab this early afternoon... in at 1240, yet another form to fill in, a quick prick (and I got a lollie for being such a good boy!), a ten minute wait (in case there was any adverse reaction, no different procedure than when I get a flu shot) and on my way by 1300.

No reaction so far. Anything that might be associated with it is probably 'in my head' as I've been actively looking for something to happen.

Second jab already scheduled in 12 weeks.

Easy peasy.

I'm getting my second Pfizer on Tuesday. Including the waiting period I was in and out in 27 minutes. They processed 2400 people that day, and as somebody else mentioned there were no complainers or angry people. Everybody was there because they wanted to be. I was going to hold off until people who needed it more were taken care of, but right now they seem to have more vaccine than qualified people. A "lollie"... is that what we call a lolipop or piece of candy on a stick? If so when this is over than I'm moving to Australia!

My sister and BIL got the Moderna shots in January. He had no ill effects. She got hit pretty hard only after the 2nd dose.
