I couldn't say it better but will add that as trailers go,demand and resale is less than most trailers. IMO a 5x10 w/two 3500Lb axles and brakes is the lightest dump trailer in hiogh demand. New one's go for $4k and used for $3k+. Single axle dump want's to lift tongue while dumping or the slightest off center loaded. Faced with $3k max budget I'd opt for a homemade truck bed trailer and one of these and have over $2k left to buy other toys. Error | DNS Resolution | Northern Tool + Equipment

Can you point me to a 5x10 dump w/two 3500Lb axles and brakes and new and $4k? I don't think so.
Edit: At least not anywhere in Kansas

Not sure what’s in your area, check out bestchoicetrailers.com in PA for comparisons. Sure Trac builds a quality trailer, and a 10’ 7k lb dump is $5000. I have a ST 14k dump that I’m super happy with , and just picked up this week a ST 18’ 10k utility trailer from them that I had custom built. You will quickly forget about the extra $1000, but will remember/regret buying a smaller, lesser quality trailer. Sure Trac is only an example of a quality trailer, there are many others, but buying once is always cheaper than
buying, not being happy, and buying again.
Good luck..,

THE BEST ADVICE !!!!

THE BEST ADVICE !!!!

I’d personally never buy a tandem 3500 pound axel dump trailer. It’s too big for the capacity. 2 tractor buckets of gravel and it’s loaded. The 5x8 with a 5200 pound or ideally a 7k axel would be much better IMO. I briefly considered a tandem 5200 pound but pretty much came to the same conclusion.

^^ I guess it depends on what’s being hauled, I move logs, brush, branches, scrap, yard waste, and general stuff to the landfill on occasion and prefer a larger capacity/volume dump trailer for those times......

It depends on what you want to do with the trailer I use mine for yard work and hauling on my property. When I do big jobs I have it hauled in last job was 200 ton so it was hauled in one day. Now if I need more I just get a load tri-axle or trailer dump last year I got a load of sand so good for a year or two..A lot cheaper than a trailer....

I think my trailer system is even better.
My younger son stores his tandem dump trailer in one of my barns.
I can use it whenever he is not using it (roofing).
Works for me!

Trucks are far superior in load carrying ability than trailers but a dump trailer with only 3500 pound axes isn’t worth much. Maybe I’m a tool snob but a truck that’s not minimum a 2500 and a trailer that’s not got minimum 7k axels isn’t much use. I do like a little 5x8 trailer for hauling appliances and stuff but a dump trailer with a 1 ton payload isn’t much good.

What would grass clippings off of a 20,000 sq ft lawn of fescue weigh? Not much, but I still don't want to unload them with a pitchfork on a hot, muggy, smelly Saturday morning at the landfill. :)

Might mention that one reason for looking at lighter trailers is my Dodge Dakota and it's limited towing capacity.
