My bad, drawing #14, page 28. I edited last post.
That is a slick firewall. Old age is hampering my abilities. That was a picture of a 2310.
No problem.
If you look at the bottom of the FW, you will see on mine the wire-harness going in the bottom horseshoe cut-out. It then travels back up to behind the dash panel and the VR sits in there. I'll have to browse the JD850/950 manual too. IF the VR sits in the same place, then I know it's a JD requirement that Yanmar didn't typically do. Thus, it makes the Yanmar/JD models more similar than I even thought.
Those two scans are excellent information!Found a neat method to test the VR vs. the Alternator from the John Deere side of things.

What's your source? Is that the Deere version of the IT Shop Manual?
Nice.
So, it does show up in the manual, but not displayed for it's location. Item-9 124550-77710 and the description does have this; TL1Z86 Which in turn is a Ford tractor or old Ford truck VR made by Hitachi. SpareX on Amazon has it for 1/2 the price of Fredricks or Hoye even. AND it looks like the modern solidstate version Fredricks shows on their site.
