Any opinions on the Oregon brand helmets?

I have had good luck with the hard hat from cutterschoice.com

Looks like the ratchet version is $10 more. No idea on the neck guard, looks like they don't have one. Anyways, enjoy the new helmet!

It doesn't. I just got one of the ratchet models off ebay. I could not find one on Amazon. I did not fit the face shield to my regular slip rachet Husky helmet as I don't use them for chain saw work. But the Stihl helmet that I and my wife use for weed whacking finally got too worn out to use so I got the dial ratchet Husky helmet which can be adjusted easier than the slip ratchet model. The dial one does not come with the neck guard but I don't use that either so no loss. It also comes with what looks like a better head band than the plastic one on the slip model (which I replaced with a terry cloth one so I won't have sweat running in my eyes when it's over 60 degrees).

I'm happy with my Peltor setup.

Interesting read. You guys are serious about these. I've never, ever, ever considered wearing a helmet while running a chainsaw. :)

Sounds like there are plenty of good choices. That must indicate the profit margin is high. :)

I just use my adjustable HF face shield with 3M ear muffs. If it's hot I might throw a wet hand towel over my head before I put the other two pieces on.

I do not know, I am amazed most of these places can manufacture and sell them for around $30. There cannot be a lot of profit in that :confused3:

Missouri has helmet law for motorcycles. 40 years ago I was trying on helmets at the local store. Had just removed a cheap one and was looking it over when an elderly man walked by. As he passed he softly said "cheap helmet for a xheap head". I bought the better more expensive helmet. :)

Having seen the unpleasant aftermath of some significant head injuries and how they affect the survivors life and personality, I will never consider operating a chainsaw where overhead hazards are present without a helmet.

No one plans to have an accident. In a lot of cases, having a fatal accident would be better than surviving a serious head injury and being that much of a burden on your family.

One branch smashing you're head is all it takes. I was cutting limbs one time and one under pressure snapped off and if my face guard wasn't attached to my helmet I could have lost at least one eye.

When I bought my first (and only) chainsaw, at my local Stihl shop, I went 'all in' on the safety gear to go with it = chaps, gloves and helmet.

Perhaps it was just 'luck of the draw' but the only Stihl helmet that they had available (it's a little town shop) had the attached face-shield, ear-defenders and the ratchet adjustment. Very comfortable to wear with the ear-defenders down.

I wear it when I'm using my branch chipper too... that's saved me from an injury or two.

I'm not that big of a safety guru but when I started cutting wood 45 years it wasn't long before I had to many close calls and now I cant imagine cutting wood without a helmet and I definitely need eye protection!!!! Just this past winter I had some dead limbs coming down on my head, one if I didn't have my helmet on would've really hurt, maybe over the yeas I developed a phobia.

Just 9 days ago I ordered my helmet and tonight it showed up when I showed up, that seems fast to me coming from the UK. Anyway I do have is couple issues on this $40.00 helmet, the earmuffs dont like to stay in all the way on the last click or is that the first click, and I see no adjustment unless I go redneck, 2nd thing is there is a small spot of glue or maybe screen deformity of some sort. Maybe I should've looked for a helmet with earmuff compression adjustment, my first Husqvarna helmet had that 40 years ago, just turn a screw, I think that was the best helmet I ever had.

I took some pictures for reference in case someone else is looking for a helmet...

Hmm, my Jonsered helmet has a lot good things about it, the Labonville $40 helmet is even better. That spot of whatever it is on the face shield would drive me crazy..

I ran my first chainsaw when I was 16. That was 51 years ago. I've never ran a saw with a helmet on. Not bickering. Just clarifying my position.

I do wear ear muffs & gloves....

Most of the time.

I wear ear protection all the time and my hearing is still less than it was. Not bad, just less. Head injury is more binary.

When I saw you wanted a neck flap I immediately looked to see if you were in a cool climate and sure enough you're in Maine. Down here in SC I wear an water saturated neck cooler on hot days. Would you soak the neck flap?
