Insulated? Heated? You guys in pineapple land are spoiled. Up here we work harder and faster to warm up. The BSing helps too.:)

I would have said that too while my pole barn was uninsulated and heated with a torpedo heater. Now that it's insulated with a big wood stove, I would never go back. I think we're all a little tongue in cheek here. If we could pull it off, our shops would be better outfitted than our houses.

You got that right!

I love being in mine on a cold day and its almost 70 degrees inside. It's a good feeling. I just wish I had an air conditioner. Someday...

That's how my wife sees it. Wintertime I'm in my shop more than in my house.

Nothing better than spending a cold, snowy afternoon in a wood heated shop. Glancing out the window periodically to see how bad it is outside.

Now you have to fill it with all your toys!.

Jack, we could have a contest to see how long before he says "should have made it bigger". :)

Yes, we all know they are never big enough. I wish it was bigger but at least now my simple needs are being satisfied. I think instead of making it bigger or making additional storage, I will concentrate on making this one better. In time, try and have it insulated, better finishes, who knos, maybe even A/C.

Yep, concentrate your money toward year around use first. I don't have AC, but my shop temp never drops below 60 degrees.

Ok, just some updates .... I haven’t been on this site fore over a year due to the app on the iPhone not working. This is through Tapatalk which seems to be more of a pain.

I still do not have electrical but that is a work in progress actually. So I have extension cords run out there. I have 5 LED high bay lights hung which illuminate really well. The electrical wires have been pulled through the conduit on one side of the barn with 220 for one of the hookups. The panel is in and wire is run underground but not inside the house.

Natural gas has been run out to the barn. When electrical is hooked up, I will then at some point get the boiler to run the heated floors.

Water tubes are run into the house but not hooked into the plumbing yet. I don’t technically need a spill proof backflow valve but still up in the air on buying them. I would need 2 of these. On for the hot; one for cold. I ran 2 tubes because I wanted to tap into the hot water tank inside the house to have 50 gallons available. I have it this way currently in my garage and it comes in handy when washing cars in the winter, or really dirty greasy equipment.

A couple of months ago, I put in concrete from my drive to the barn with a walkway from that driveway to the man door on the side. I went with exposed aggregate on the walkway and it’s 5’ wide.

Things still needed off the top of my head.
Finish electrical, permanent source of heat, gutters, landscape the side, insulation and interior ceiling.

1 thing I would like to comment on. I definitely use this barn and have had different types of spills and leaks. Gas, diesel oil, hydraulic oil etc. sealing the concrete was a great investment as it all cleans up extremely well.

I’ll post a couple photos if I can from this app.

Even added some out back and smoothed it out a little. I’ll have to get a better photo. This is to a path way out back

I’m currently using a beast of a torpedo heater. It’s a silent drive 220,000 btu heater. I run off road diesel in it. It will heat the barn to 60-70 degrees. I should be out there today and it’s around 10 degrees out so we shall see how she does. It definitely likes to drink the fuel but that’s the price of being comfortable I guess. I can’t wait to the floors to be heated.

I’ve also noticed you can smell it a bit more when I had the thermostat set to around 30 where it kicked on/off more. When it’s set at 50 and runs more, there is much less odor if any at all. First half hour, let it warm up, crack a window if needed and it’s great!.

So far this app appears to be working well. We shall see

Thanks for the update. The concrete looks really nice. Did you put any empty pipes or conduit under it for future use? Lets say you want to add another wire, cable or something unknown in the future from the house to the barn?

Yes, I have an empty 2” pipe with a string in it to help pull. I will be pulling cable out there for TV. Cable I’m iffy about but is a possibility. I typically use my cell phone for internet if needed but if I purchase a smart TV I think it has internet. I’m definitely not hi tech so I’ll learn as I go. I know I’ll have cameras which are internet based so maybe a internet cord will be needed

Looks very nice!
I see no reinforcing. Did you use fibre-reinforced concrete?
Were the expansion joints saw cut?
I absolutely HATE cracking, and would have cut many more expansion joints.
You live in a COLD climate, so you will very likely get some cracking.

The concrete is 6” with fiber mesh. No rebar.

There is saw cuts in it now. I may add 1 more in a spot my father in law recommended. (He was also in concrete).
