I asked about 4 in 1 buckets a while back and the consensus here was not to do it but rather get a grapple and regular bucket.

I'm now looking at a larger tractor than I was. I'm planning the purchase of a Kioti CK3510HST TLB.

2800lb tractor plus filled tires and backhoe for ballast.

1800lb rated lift at full height.

Would this be a candidate for a 4 in 1? I like the ability to pinch and pickup skinny items. It doesn't look like grapples can do this.

There are a couple our that in the 60" range under 500lbs.

Thanks!

I have a New Holland tc40 and have a 72" WR Long 4 in 1 bucket. The tractor handles it just fine. My loader has the same rated lift at full height as you are stating. I have no problems scooping a full bucket of dirt or gravel and lifting and dumping it.

How skinny an item we talking about? :D
That limb was probably about 2.5 to 3" in diameter and everything beyond the tips was stuck in the ground (sandy creek bank).

But seriously - I started out really wanting a 4-in-1 bucket too but when I really started looking at what kinds of things I was planning to do, in the end a grapple was just a better choice.

The only place I can think of that a 4-in-1 would have been better (for me) is when I rake up rocks and roots into a pile and try to pick them up. The wide tooth spacing & open bottom lets a lot of smaller stuff fall through. However moving things like brush, logs, old hay from feeder sites, etc. the grapple does a much better job handling things like that.

In addition as you already know - the 4-in-1 weighs more and cost more.

Here is one of several threads here debating 4-in-1 vs Grapple and hardly ever does the 4-in-1 win.

At the end of the day it's your money and you have to decide what work you need to do and what tool best fits that for you. I can't think of a single thing i'd trade my grapple for (except maybe another grapple lol).

It really depends on what your needs (and anticipated needs) are. But one important thing is in common, 3rd function hydraulic lines added to your FEL.

I went with a 4in1 bucket because it suited my needs; some bucket work, a bit of back-dragging, root ripping and some very light grappling. Truth be told, the 4in1 is rarely on my FEL, unless I'm using it as front ballast. But, I have it if needed.

Whilst I don't have a grapple I can certainly appreciate its more specific uses, especially in clearing bushland and debris, sometimes rocks.

The neat thing about having a 3rd function on my FEL (flexible hydraulic lines) is that I can 'snake' it back to the rear of the tractor and use it to operate a hay rake!

I will be adding the wr long valve myself.

Okay so you guys have effectively steered me away from the 4 in 1 bucket. Mostly because of the cost and the extra uses of the grapple. I thought the bulldozing capability would be nice but I can just use the box blade.

On a different note, I'm trying to work as much of what I want into the financing as possible. The dealership has 2000lb blue diamond ssqa forks that they say are a good fit for $550. Good product? Good deal? Should I go 40000lb since the breakout force of the tractor is 3500lb?

Separately they have a Kodiak, standard duty, 72", 5 tine box blade for $599. Good product? Strong enough?

Lastly, they build their own snow plow and I need one. They are telling me 78" is the right one. $1599 with hydraulic angle. Sound right?

These all seem like really good prices to me.

There is no consensus on that issue.

If your jobs are moving materials (gravel, dirt, duff, animal effluent), get a 4-in-1.
Four-in-one bucket operation on Kioti CK3 tractor - YouTube

If your jobs are lifting brush or branches, then get a grapple.

I use my FEL forks half of the year, and the 4-in-1 the other half. I find forks are better for
logs, and I have a lot of logs.

If uprooting saplings or brush, a 4-in-1 also works very well.

If I bought a new tractor, a 3510 would be high on my list to replace my similar CK30.
Either handles a small 60" 4-in-1 very well.

Great video! I think right now the money it's going to hold me back on the 4 in 1.

I'm currently trying to find a ripper for the backhoe for breaking roots. My dealer suggested a root Spade loader bucket as he called it. He made this suggestion based on the 3500lb breakout force of the fel. I was more thinking a BH ripper tooth and a FEL tooth bar would be a good combo when I'm in stump removal mode. Then a grapple to move the stump.

Stump removal will not be the main job but it will be a job.

I'm also thinking the grapple (or 4in1) would make sectioning logs much easier. Just suspend it and start cutting.

Just so long as you are aware of what a tractor FEL is designed to do = lift and carry. It is an attachment.

That's why there is other equipment, such as a Skid Steer, designed specifically around the lifting arms and associated hydraulics.

Absolutely. I certainly am aware of the limitations of such a machine. This is the size and type of machine I'm going to have as it fits most of my needs and going bigger or having a skid steer aren't in the cards.

I feel that a lot can be accomplished with patience and a few proper attachments.

I've used a ripper on a similar sized backhoe and was amazed at what it could cut through and break up. I have never used a Tree Spade on an FEL. I wont be removing nearly enough stumps to justify the tree Spade.

I intend to have a toothbar for some digging anyway. Problem is I can't seem to find a ripper for the KB2475l.

Contact Michigan Iron and Equipment, a Kioti dealer and TBN advertiser (I think). They made a ripper tooth
for a hoe for a TBN member in the past. You should be able to find the thread if you do a search.

I do small (6" or less) stump removal and I'm using just the Grapple & the Bucket w/ the tooth bar. I'd LOVE to have a backhoe but I don't have enough clean-up work to justify owning one. I'd be better off renting a Mini-Ex or hiring it out.

MIE is good people and I have had great experience dealing with them on parts so not knocking them at all, but I would also contact
BXpanded about making a ripper tooth for your BH. All BH Accessories

I have one of the Piranha Tooth bars on our loader and I will never own another loader without one. Looking at some of the other model BH rippers he has already - if I had a BH then I'd get one of these.
And I guess it goes without saying at this point but look at the tooth bars too. ;)

Yes, I see that BXpanded has "expanded" their lineup to include a ripper tooth for more
than just subcompact hoes. I see one for the Kubota BH77 on their site.
