Texas Spring/Summer Thread

My Bermuda grass has gotten sparse. What fertilizer will work best? All I ever remember using is 13-13-13 and I don't think this will help the Bermuda.

Also, I'm fixin' to put out more Bermuda seed.

Brandi, you probably have acidic soil. I suggest you google Texas A&M soil testing lab, there will be instructions for sending in a soil sample for analysis ($10). That analysis will also recommend what you need to do. I'm guessing put out lime and maybe fertilizer. When I lived at Cypress, I put out lime one year and it had the same effect as putting out fertilizer, the grass greened up and took off. This was after several years of putting out fertilizer.

I saw online a few years back various soil sample kits but never bought one. Kinda wish I had. We have what I call gumbo clay type soul and I suspect maybe it needs to be limed. Not familiar with that though.

Brandi, get to know your County Texas AgriLife Extension Agent. They are a big help with things like this. Most generate regular emails with localized Ag info and sponsor seminars. I think you're in Montgomery County?

Hope this helps.

Why a thread of summers in Texas, and not all the states? They need the most help?

Texas has it's own Spring/Summer thread AND it's own Fall/winter thread. It's not that we need the most help just that we are the friendliest. In fact even though you are from Wisconsin, feel free to chime in at any time for comments, advice, and yes even help.

There is also a Morning thread in "Rural Living" that encompasses the whole world if you want to broaden your horizons.

I remember a couple of years ago Pacerron used to post in the Texas thread quite a bit and I believe he was in Ohio. Haven't heard from him in awhile.
