Thinking of a solar back up for well pump

I get the point, but all the references I see show 8 amps for 1hp at 230v, not 15. That is FL amps not LR. I'm sure LR is in the range of 30-35.

My bad I didn't see this post before my post above. We must have been typing at the same time. I can draw up something and post it if that would help. It's hard to just type it out.

That is still 20+ times the power of the rv pump. Why make this overly complicated?

Well just had dinner with some friends, one is a farmer with lots of solar. He told me how it can work combining the meters or getting an aggregate billing either way. I also spoke to my son (the solar salesman) about adding a few more panels to absorb both loads and he thinks it's doable.

So I may well end up with a totally self sustaining system. Will probably have to add 3-4 more panels, but that will only be $3-4K and still a lot less than my original idea would have probably cost. Plus I get a tax credit on the additional panels, since the Fed credit is 30% of the total system cost.

My son informed me cost to install will be a lot less than he estimated so the battery will be more like $5500 installed and not 7K. Am expecting a $5500 rebate on that from local power company.

Will most likely sign final contract in next day or two. Thanks to all for letting me know my $1000 idea wasn't going to be nearly that cheap. Made the upgrade seem a lot more reasonable.

It is good to hear you have received lower quotes for the upgrade. Combined with the rebates and tax incentives that may be a viable route to take.

Just keep in mind if the price goes up too much that you can get a rv pump set up with one spare in box, a 210 amp hour 12v agm 7 year battery and a charger with timer as I mentioned for less than $1,000. Good to know if the solar price winds up higher than expected.
