57F clear sky upper 70's for high, another taste of autumn today than bit of warm up to follow.

Wind shook the bigger acorn from the tree yesterday and the furry little critters were working overtime, and on the job again this morning.

Enjoy the day all.

Good morning all. 61 going to 81 today and partly sunny. Good day for traveling. Going to Cumberland Va to look at a Craigs list find. A 12 x 20 jet mini wood lathe with a bed extension. Wanted a lathe for many years so we will see how it works out. Wife will have extra work o do while I am gone, God bless her.

Ron Sending more prayers for you and your wife.

Eric Careful, it a ploy to get you to work faster.:)

Have a great day. Ed

64 going to 84. Quite cloudy right now, but should see lots of sun today.

Eric, nice to be up early when art is painted on the sky.

Got more bush hogging done yesterday, so today hoping to correct some erosion, and then till a food plot for fall planting.

67 degrees out, first time it has dipped into the sixties in what seems like weeks.

off to drop my car off at the friendly import repair shop and then back on the mower.
Should finish in an hour or two since the fields don't need mowing, yet.
Actually hoping this dry weather ahead slows everything down. I'd rather water some shrubs occasionally
than have to mow 8 acres more than once a week. Mentally enjoyable, physically challenging.

I hope you all have a good day.
RS, take a break, you're working too hard. How about some fish pics?
RNG, what is the final decision on the paint color? Are you going to be stock looking or custom?

Good morning! A warm cloudy 77˚ heading to 90˚.

Pool water dropped to 78˚ with all the clouds and rain (6" the last week) and the pool is in Fall mode - removed some sails and the solar cover is on.

Tractor spindle axle was delivered and it looks like the right one this time. Time to fix that Tractor and get it out of the field.

We put the Fish Fry tents up yesterday evening and hope we don't have a washout Saturday.

Good luck this weekend Don. Wasn't it super hot last year by my memory? Or maybe it's always hot...

Good memories of going to my local Grange for the fried chicken dinner.

It's always hot, sometimes up to 107˚. Years back they had the FF in September but then they had a few rain-outs so they changed it to Hot August. The heat does not keep the people away but the thunderstorms do. I have never seen these many rainy days in August, it's wonderful, except on the day of the mega outdoor event of the year.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, what kind of fish?

58 this morning and headed to 85 today. Back into the 90's for the rest of the week.

I'll finish mowing today. Would like to grade the drive and do some bushhoging. But we'll see what plans the wife has. Stopped by TSC this morning for dog food and cattle mineral after I dropped off the oldest at preschool.

Eric. Nice sunrise.

Good morning. Another day inside for me, painting walls and ceiling, although at least I was allowed out first thing to see the sunrise.

Hawkeye, that must be awful when you can't go outside because there is so much smoke in the air. Hope it clears soon. Are you still aware of the smell when you are inside the house ?

Inside is just a faint smell of smoke, usually after someone has come in or out. I stayed mostly indoors last year from end of July into fall as we had many wildfires burning, such that when the winds shifted, it was smoke from a different fire. it's real still out right now so I opened my office window for a little while to get some cooler air in. Its 56 outside so started whole house fan (we use furnace filters in windows that we open when running the fan to keep dust and pollens out (but they don't do much for smoke).. just the faint smell of smoke with fan running right now.. enjoying the cool air coming in.

We don't have central heating/air conditioning in our house, only really need some cooling for a few weeks each year. We have one window air conditioner that helps, along with two of the free standing units from Costco that have a 5-6" exhaust hose running to the window to vent. We learned last year that those that have an exhaust hose are pulling inside air and exhausting it. The air has to be replaced by outside air so it was pulling smoke in and we had to stop using them when the air was smoky. I was looking at one last night, figuring out how to rig up a hose to pull outside air in, I would have to separate the intake and exhaust (could not be close together in a window). We've been here 23 years and last year was the first year we had the smoke for so long.

Good morning all, 64 here this morning going ti 81. Sounds like a nice day for a change. High Friday back up to 90. Wife's nephew came over with a friend to swim. they were having fun and we asked our family member with autism if he wanted to go swimming and he showed us he did. We carefully walked him into the pool and we stood there for a bit then my wife picked him up and held him in the water and bounced him up and down in the water for a long while. He was so happy and to him it was great fun. After about 15 min he was done and we came in and dried him off and he wanted to lay down for a while. He is 48 and it was the first time in his life that he went swimming. That made it a GREAT day.

Drew Glad you are OK and hope you don't have to hitch hike to long. :( I hit a deer with my 01 Dodge at 55 mph and the bumper shifted only very slightly, deer did not make out very well. Does your insurance cover a rental car?

Eric They tried to get my dad to paint the windows at church. He asked for a 4" brush and said he just started with the glass and then moved to the wood. They got someone else to paint the windows.:)

Have a great day all, I am off to buy some swimming trunks for our new swimmer today. Ed

Ed, I know that taking care of a person with autism can be hard but also very rewarding at times. Even the smallest hint of gladness coming from them is rewarding. God Bless.

Thanks all for thinking about our Finnly. It was tough pulling her from school because of all my kids, she was the one who was looking forward to going back.

Farmer, how is your son adapting? Has he taught his teachers all they need to know yet?

RNG, you will have the nicest VW van around. Are you going to take it on a USA tour?

70F and very sunny @ 10:45 ... low this morning was 50.4F  ... high today predicted to be 83F.

Went into the commercial property yesterday ... while it wasn't perfect, the guy did an acceptable job with the mowing and trash pick up. Sprayed about 4 gallons of Trimec 899 solution on the front lawn ... was probably about 3 gallons short to complete the front. That will have to wait until after the next rain which might happen this Thursday ...

Found a tiny kitten in the boiler room when I went inside the building, mewing like crazy ... still had it's umbilical cord attached, small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. Rescued it and the daughter of the guy next door took it to her mother to care for. Will have to be bottle-fed.

Picked up the two adapter bushings at Summers on the way home, also grabbed 10" of protective sleeving for the hoses on the dump cart.

Got the rest of the lawn mowed around the house yesterday afternoon.

Last night I got the cylinder for the log lift plumbed in and hooked up ... except for the rod end of the cylinder. One thing I failed to account for was clearance for the larger diameter of the new cylinder ... so there is an interference issue at this point. Will have to cut off the attachment point on the lift and weld on a slightly longer one so that the body of the cylinder isn't hitting the lift. Shouldn't be too bad to fix. Fired up the engine and ran the cylinder for the push block out and back a few times to fill it with hydraulic fluid, purge the air, and check for leaks.

71°F and 1.94 inches rain last 24 hours. A bit too wet for any mowing

Off to Dr this AM to finish Hep shots for our trip funny thing is we had to almost beg to get the shots but last few weeks with the Hep A breakout locally TV has been bombarding us with pleas to get them.

Two years of planning but only one more week and we leave on our trip - Danube River cruise with wife's sister & husband and some friends. Of course I couldn't leave it that simple. Have to get our money's worth. We start by visiting our son and granddaughter in Va a few days. Head to Berlin for a week. Then the weeklong AMA Waterways cruise from Vilshofen GE to Budapest. Fly back for another couple days with son. Finish the week in Ca visiting wife's other sister and Mom before coming home. Not quite a month. Probably come back +20 pounds, all that great bier and food. Can you say schnitzel :)

Be safe
Have a great day

You must have missed the grand unveiling, Drew. No name to the color, though one component is called Stratos Blue. The narrow rib part way down the van will be an orange color, and both have pearl in them. Probably as far from a factory VW color as you can get, but then this is Kalifornia!

Good luck with the fish fry and tractor spindle, Don!

What's the name of the closest fire to you, Hawkeye? I ask because even here in Northern California the air is smokey and the closest fire is a long way off. The weather people say it's the Cedar fire in Kern County that's causing most of the smoke in our area. But in days past it's been both the Soberanes and Clayton fires that have been the worst.

Hopefully the van'll be on the road by this fall, Kyle, and I'm toying with the idea of a maiden voyage down to New Mexico and as far east as El Paso to look for southwestern themed upholstery/drapery fabric, and furniture for the living room. I've found a few shops in those areas on line, but that's not the kind of thing I'm comfortable buying site unseen. And October in the southwest is has some pretty nice weather as well.

Sounds like your splitter is gettin' pretty close to runnin', RS. With fall approaching and all that wood piling up, timing couldn't be better, eh?

Took a day off from working on the van yesterday (gasp!) and put up the new weather station. Had to call Davis to figure out how to swap over the Weatherlink computer cable; the end inside the old console used a black plastic plug and my old eyes just couldn't see it. It's now up and running, though I need to upgrade the pole it's mounted on to something stiffer. Looks like a trip to the junk yard is in my near future.

This year is BMW's 100th anniversary of something or another, so they've been celebrating down at the Laguna Seca Raceway outside of Monterey this week. One of the big BMW motorcycle clubs is having its national rally at the track this coming weekend, so I'm heading down Wednesday to help setup our smaller club's Aircentral tent. That'll give me a few days to ride the coast road, eat some great seafood, and kick tires with a bunch of other old farts.

The old GS hadn't been run since I got back from Utah a month or so ago, and it's the one that got covered with paint dust, so I spent most of the afternoon washing it and treating the paint and plastic with Wipe New. Did a pretty nice job in sprucing up the old girl; it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. Also found that the battery was dead, no surprise since it dates from 2010 and I hadn't been keeping it on a float charger. So I swapped it out with the battery from the winter bike, then put that one on the charger even though it was still strong enough to start the GS to it warm enough to boil all the water off.

So today it's back to van work; the filler tube for the fuel tank needs a coating on the inside to neutralize the rust that had built up there, and the area behind the grill needs a coat of black semigloss paint. And while I've got that in the gun I'll shoot the dash and a few other parts as well. Once that's done it'll be time to gather maps and pack, as I want to get a very early start tomorrow morning.

Yale Road and Wellsley are the two closest (Wellsley is less than 10 miles away, Yale Rd less than 20 miles away). A couple others 50 miles away.
