Yeah, I underestimated how much it would take for the 3/8" stock! I'll probably grind off the weld, bump the heat up and try again.
Looks pretty darn good to me but I don't know anything but MIG and not well either. Great job I have to say. Just remember SA and Arc Weld are perfectionists (and I guess I have to also say we are lucky to have them put up with us mortals). :D

Thanks!

I'm thrilled to have perfectionists like Shield Arc and Arc Weld giving me advice! Hopefully it will help others along the way as well. :)

Yes and you posting weld photos definitely helps us all maybe at your expense. I been following and I still want to get my hands on your first piece of art (post #26)

Perfectionist? You haven't seen some of the stuff I royally messed up. I had good teachers and learned a lot from others over the years so why not pass it on if helps someone. I consider it a compliment if someone asks me for welding help or my opinion and try to give an honest answer good or bad. If I don't know, I won't try to fake it. That's probably my biggest pet peeve, people not knowing and giving the wrong advice. I can tell you how to get burnt 43 different ways but don't stop welding if you have good bead going...

unless your crotch is on fire.:fiery: Then you tend to want to put it out as fast as you can.

Hey Arc... I lumped you in with SA... sorry about that!

Shield Arc's a prodigy having only a few weeks under his belt. Lump me into his shop and I'll be in heaven.;)

Saw this happen in high school shop class. Kid slapped it out in panic, then sat there writhing in pain for a minute. It was a no win situation if there ever was one!

GManBart yesterday I found some 1/8" ESAB Acclaim 7018. This morning I thought I'd see how it runs on the Everlast PowerArc 200ST.
The flat fillet was run at 90-AMPS.
The vertical up fillet was run at 85-AMPS.
The cap weld on the pipe was also run at 85-AMPS.

SA,
It would be interesting to put an ammeter on your PowerArc 200ST. Those welds look more like 115 to 120 amps to me. 85 amps is right for 3/32 rod for me.

Oh I know, this is one powerful little welder:cool2:! It runs 10 to 15-AMPS hotter than my Lincoln V350-Pro. Now this is a comparison with the same joint prep, same type, and size rod.

Thanks!;)
I really think ESAB consumables are a good fit with Everlast welders. The PowerArc 200ST does very well with ESAB's 10P-Plus 6010.

Ran a couple more fillet welds today....they all looked like this. I couldn't move any slower if I tried, so I'm wondering if the drag angle was too much and caused the pointy ends?

These were one after the other on the same plates, about 5" long each, and each used 2/3rds of a 7018 rod.

Hard to tell, without being there to watch you weld.
Really those welds don't look bad at all! Just wait until you get the PowerArc 200ST.

You are spending too much time in the middle of the bead , and stacking . Learn to roll up and down that joint , and soak it in . SA is the man .

Thanks....I'll give it a try. I was moving up and down a little bit, but probably not enough. I'm going to play with the rod drag angle, see what happens, then try more up and down (I like to change only one thing at a time when possible).

On a positive note, I've tried using the grinder with a cutoff disc to reuse a few of the plates I've welded on previously, and I gave up....the welds were solid enough, and penetrated deep enough that I would have been there forever. I think that's a good sign!

Yes it is . Can you see , that is my biggest problem . You have got to be on top of that weld .
