Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Ha ha! Thanks! No, I didnt think to get some hangers. Ill get some headed this way.

It does help to back over them a couple of times. Im looking forward to trying the heavy blades.

From flail mowing this morning I did discover a fast new way to roll barbed wire!

AH HA, by the way the garden hose snakes are the worst and the extension cords come in a close second.

Be sure to get the barbed wire off the bearing housings too as they are a huge heat sink when brush or wire is close to the inner portion of the bearing housings.

Never did a garden hose or extension cord, but one time I did barbed wire and it took a couple hours of frustration to remove it was wound so tight.

Irrigation pipe seems to pop up when it hears my flail coming... (reminds me. I must go and pick all those pieces up)

Luckily the barb wire wasn't too bad, 20 minutes or so with a good set of wire cutters and all was well. Nothing around the bearings this time. On my original once over one side of the rear roller was jammed up with baler twine.

We will see about the flail master belt. It was only $25 or so. Worst case is it won't work or just fail somehow.

Anyone know what the heaviest knives/best brush cutter blades that are available for the Alamo SHD88? I realize its not a rotary cutter (we have one) but I do want it to shred as big of brush as possible. Oh and mine is a course cut (88 blades vs 108) so that makes it a SHD88CC apparently.

Recently purchased this mower and need help identifying it for parts. Tag is hard to read, but it says: 1-22-108, it also say I 958 on a Ford tag.

Maybe it was a state used mower and was ordered with the orange color, and latter painted blue?

I replaced one bearing on the back roller and welded and braced the cracked iron on the 3pt arms. Some of the metal needs straightened and welded, but it should work as it is.

Any ideas, opinions welcome.

Looks like you have a good flail to shred with! Like mine theres no worry about the first scratch or dent. So far Im really likeing how they mulch up grass.

Should be easy to get parts for as well. Spool it up and let the chips fly!

Looks just like a ford 907 I am looking at.

If you dont mind me asking what did you give for it? Trying to figure out what the one I am looking at is worth.

He asked $500, I paid $400. He had new upper and lower pulleys and new belt. Gear box doesn't leak at all. Just looks like it's been dropped from an airplane!!

I'm sure it's been around the mountain a couple of times. But once all the bends/welds are fixed, and with new bearings...the only thing left is the knives, if they need replaced. They look good for now. I'll probably work on them with a 4" grinder for good measure.

The roller is adjustable. See the 4th picture(I think), the three holes above the roller bearing. How much adjustment (effect) does each hole make. Should I leave it as it is?

Does the Identification on the tag indicate what I need to get parts? What does the I 958 tell me? Or the 1-22-108? It it a model 907, or something else?

I have been reading this thread over the last weeks (I can't say I've read all 2708 posts!), but I was wondering if flail owners think the hydraulic side shift is a worthwhile feature. I would be using this to cut CRP land and some of it has trees.

I wish I had side shift on my old beater 917. Really only useful for mowing next to a fence or other obstacles & not in the open. But it sounds like you have obstacles you could sift towards or away from to get a closer cut without backing up & going in at a different angle.
