That's one of the better videos available but there is one thing I would change just a smidgen.

The included angle of 118° seemed to be very important but to me it isn't if the lips are the same length and angle. Different included angles are beneficial on different materials. We will see this in the attachment and these angles aren't set in stone but are just a guideline.

What the video did mention, but did not dwell on enough in my opinion, was keeping the lip level as the grinding process proceeded. If the cutting lip edge doesn't remain horizontal the chisel angle of the web will not be correct.

Another vid that may not benefit old timers but may be beneficial to those wanting to learn hand sharpening and be able to talk the talk.

I have never been a fan of WD40 at least in mild steel. Last night drilling into 3/16in plate with 5/8in twist bit again reminded me that it doesn't do good for me. Need to get more cutting oil.

For any thing over 1/2 inch, I usually drill a pilot hole first. I usually just try to match the pilot bit with the width of where the drill flutes come together on the bigger bit. I dont get carried away with trying to match exactly, if it looks close, it probably will work just fine. I dont like drilling out bigger holes using several bits to enlarge the hole a little bit at a time as it seems to always ruin the next larger size bit by leaving a grove or chip in the cutting face. I bought a set of consolidated toledo (sp) drill bits a few years back. I have probably drilled a couple of hundred 1/2in holes with the same drill bit and havent had to sharpen it yet.

They are huot drill dispensers. Go for about $60-$70 a pop. I have one for fractionals. Don't yet have one for number and letter bits.

LD1 thanks for the lead. I ordered the one for fractional bits. That is going to improve my quality of life considerably.

Yes, they are nice cases. A bit expensive for what they are, but darn handy. Beats spending 5 minutes digging through a collection a bit to try to find the size you need

Pat. LD1 will confirm you've started on an expensive journey. Now comes the fun part.....stocking it. :D

Nice set. Mine is just about that full.

I would like to get the letter and number dispensers too, but hard to justify as I only use a hand full of those. Most commonly #3, #7, F, and O.

Most of my stock has came from the various places I have worked over the last 10 years. Factories don't believe in resharpening or even reusing bits under 1/2". So even if a bit was used 1 time to drill for 10 seconds in aluminum, it seems taboo to put it back instead of toss it out. Makes for a nice home collection over the years.

Much better. It is not that I have so many drill bits, it is that I need to spend less time looking for the one I want. Still have metric, number and letter size but those are easier to keep track of.

Nice to be organized. :)

Show off! Nicely done though.
