i was looking at these....do you think the 32hp is strong enough? i just worry that the torque at the axle shaft in 1st gear is quite high??? or am i crazy? i would just hate to blow one of these up next....

I don't know, I build things using the TLAR School of Engineering method. (That Looks About Right). :D

I think that means 32hp on the input shaft. I guess you could call them and ask.

TLAR, lol...I like that.:p

HP = RPM * torque

Torque is what twists & breaks things, so worry about it more than HP. They made the bigger PTO shafts 1000 RPM so they could keep the shaft smaller & lighter while transmitting more HP compared to running them at 540 RPM.

Can you make it a belt drive to your jackshafts? Mating Hydraulic vane/gear motors to the screws directly with a pump on the engine? Rotate your drive system so there are no 90 degree torque transfers? I realize it would involve re-engineering the entire drive. I don't think these are meant to screw across concrete, they are meant to be used in slippery conditions.

I was considering rotating the drivetrain, but I think I may go with those gear boxes instead...hydraulic just seems to expensive

The pontoon cylinders need to be larger diameter and you need more, shallower screw vanes.

Any news? I was really enjoying this project, hope it's still alive. Once you get it figured out, I'll take a utility version for the cottage please :D

I agree, I sure hope it's still a work in progress! :thumbsup:

don't worry, she's still a work in progress.... I'm just searching for some cheep 90' gearboxes. the new ones online are 150each, plus 180 shipping to Canada.....which is a lot for me (and my wife mainly :p) trying to find some used ones, not doing so well.....

I was thinking about your project yesterday when I was a GBS bearings picking up stuff for my own project. They had exactly what you're looking for sitting on the counter. I didn't ask about price and I don't know how much shipping would be, but at least there wouldn't be any duties or nasty broker fees. Worth calling them to find out, they had at least 3 sizes on display including a large cut away model that looked like it could have handled a couple hundred hp.
