A welder friend whipped this up for a customer. Looks like the real deal for being a handy add-on.

Spent the last 35 years or so tryin' to find a way to get the job done in SPITE of OSHA - Not ALL bad, but it was obvious whoever came up with some of that stuff had never actually DONE the job.

For those who haven't seen it, here's just ONE of the more popular anti-OSHA posters... SteveOSHA-Cowboy.jpg

LOL. I was going to make something similar but I found this one on craigslist locally for $200 and couldn't build one for that soooo....

OSHA wouldn't have been all that excited about my using the bucket of my FEL to stand in to chainsaw a tree either. But then that was me at home, not working for a commercial enterprise. Body harness, drop line, and helmet, and

A lot of what OSHA does goes a long way to preventing institutional stupidity. I do recognize that all that regulation comes with a significant and detrimental cost to business. So do employee injuries and deaths.

$200 for a basket that size is pretty good. I built a smaller one this summer with scrounged and salvaged material, didn't cost anything but welding and sanding consumables. Even the paint for the welds was free partial cans. It's 30x48, a bit tight for two people but keeps the cg better for off pavement ops, and it's the size of the catwalk I had for the base.

I've got some lightweight expanded metal, might put some of that in the back to keep things in or out, as the case may be.

Bought this 3 years ago. Just rebuilt floor in man basket last weekend. Probably won't get around to repainting machine till next spring.

I built one of those also. This one is 4x8 but I built it with a 3' elevated platform. Forks go to 11'6" so I can get to 14'6". Its made from 3" x 1/4" angle so its a bit overkill but who knows how many shingles or ?? someone will load onto it. Wish I had a remote control to operate the tractor but I guess that's what brother in laws are for.

It won't work with your loader, but when I used my man basket with the shop or rough terrain forklift I used a length of heavy wall 1/2" PVC pipe attached to the lift lever via socket joint to lift and lower myself. Make sure one end is attached to the basket with a lanyard....:)

I'd like to try an IBC tote. I would remove the plastic insert.

I remember my pop lifting me up with the forklift to change lightbulbs in his shop (20' ceilings). We nailed some 2x4 railings onto a pallet and called it done! OSHA would have shut him down for sure.

Haha. Nothing like being 14 feet up in the air and hoping your pop doesn't bump the tilt lever!:) Terry

I think the big joke in his shop was tooting horns whenever someone walked in front of a truck or was up in the forklift changing lightbulbs. Never got old unless you were the one getting scared....

Always good for a laugh...or change of underwear.

I tend to use a little blast from the air blow gun on people as they are bent over trying to get a tiny nut and bolt started :D

Or, if my dad is trying to tell my brother something, keep hitting the air ratchet trigger every time he says something (standing behind him) so my brother can keep saying "what?" "what?" "speak up" :D

....that cracks me up....lol
