mahindra 3016
I am presently researching tractors and am pretty confident in buying the 3016. However the dealer was trying to suggest buying a 40 hp in case I might need the higher pto hp later. I have a 24 acre lot where I will be doing some tree clearing and landscaping. I would appreciate some advice on how large a tractor I might need. Thank you.

Welcome to the site:welcome: I would choose the 40 HP .. Best I recall ,It's the same (physical) size tractor with more HP. With a 30 HP tractor You will have roughly 25 PTO HP. Next tractor I buy will be at least 45 HP

While more horsepower is always welcome and I tend to agree with your dealer about jumping up in horsepower. But, another thought on how you add that extra horsepower. Consider a second, older and larger tractor in the future if you need horsepower. I can assure you a second tractor no matter the size will prove handy.

Please give examples and explain.

I agree, I've got to hear this 1. A 30 HP with a 25 HP PTO will pull a 5 ft rotary cutter t. A 50 HP tractor with a 45 HP PTO will pull a 9 FT cutter using the 5 ft per HP rule

Thank you for your responses. I don't believe any 30 hp tractor can beat a 50 hp tractor.

Mahindras use the 2.5 ft per HP rule

Dude, I don't know where you get you're specs , but here they are for a Mahindra 3016 28 engine HP 23 PTO HP (geared) 21.1 PTO HP HYDRO.... 23 PTO HP is good for about a 5 FT rotary cutter

Even the mahindra dealer disagrees with the 2.5/ ft rule. They state five feet max with the 3016.

I don't thing this surprises any one here.. Except, for the 1 that came up with this 2.5 rule.. Like we said, 5 ' cutter would be all you would want to run on a 23 PTO HP tractor

the 3616 has larger tires than the 3016. So your paying for more HP and larger tires.
