Eco Boost vs V8

Look at the numbers and compare it to the other V8 options and Eco Boost. It's gutless. I tow in large groups during the summer and the 5.3 L trucks get left in the dust merging on to the free way and climbing hills. The Hemi trucks drink the fuel, just the way it is. I will say the 5.3 is a good motor. It's track record shows that but the 6.0 is much more powerful with decent mpg ' s towing. Chris

How bout my previous truck; 2006 f150 fx4 crew with 5.4 Triton!

I'd put my "don't even know what to call it by your standards 4.8l" a up against that sluggish pig 5.4 any day both loaded down and not.

That 5.4 was good on paper; not so much on the road.

Thirsty, sluggish and always needed some skinny pedal to get it to move.

Truck appearance was great but performance not so much!

Talk about gutless ... I had an F150 with the 5.4. That thing was a DOG. Could barely get out of it's own way. I then stepped up to a Tundra and that made the 5.4 seem like a small v6. I drove the Chevy 5.3 and it seemed peppier than the Ford 5.4. That was unloaded though, never towed with it. If the GM 5.3 was gutless, then the Ford 5.4 was nutless!

Yep you can add this engine along with hundreds of others that would be considered gutless compared to the ecoboost with similar mileage. The ecoboost is an amazing powerplant.

I have loved mine for 30000 trouble free miles and have averaged 3.1 MPG better than the 4.7 liter gutless Dodge Dakota it replaced. I track every tank of fuel on my smartphone. Before someone thinks I am bashing the Dodge, I had great service out of it up to the day I sold it. Just no comparison in Power/MPG ratio.

I don't think the OP is interested in any of these engines mentioned but we can continue to compare dissimilar engines if he wants. For some reason certain people who have never owned an ecoboost want to chime in on these threads badmouthing it. Some people just hate to see success for some reason or other. I enjoy success no matter who makes it.

I I think it has a lot to do with the major discrepancies we see reported in gas mileage numbers for that engine... along with the well known and respected adage, " there is no replacement for displacement."

Please explain what you mean by head in the sand. I guess you are calling me a liar? I am reporting my real world experience which is the purpose of this thread. If you look back you will see that I recommended to the OP the 5.0 option if he didn't need the extra power. Give the OP some of your first hand knowledge if you have any. If not, go find one in which you have some.

I also heat my home with firewood. Sitting by the fire as I type. Nice and warm. Furnace is off, warmed up to 16 degrees outside and not a KW used for heat besides the blower. Am I not saving any money? 3600 square feet hovering around 68 degrees would cost me a lot to heat with electricity or propane. Please explain your logic?

I will agree that there are discrepancies with the MPG numbers seen by some. I know of 5 people who own ecoboost trucks including myself and one gets better, one gets considerably worse, and the other two get about the same as me. All get better than the 6.2 liter would which is what this engine should be compared to.

As far as the adage about no replacement for displacement, I know of only a couple of demographics that would consider it "respected". Those who are pre - supercharger era (shouldn't be anyone lucky enough to still be alive) or the back country good olé boys who have never seen these new fangled thingamabobs some call turbochargers. Never seen a modern farm tractor or large truck without one. How big of displacement would those need to keep them there boys happy?

My theory is that some of these good olé boy types are embarrassed or in disbelief that a quiet 3.5 liter can out perform a greater displacement engine that sounds like a muscle machine.

Same as ours. 18.3 since new. 2011 FX4 3.73 gears.
