Building my first Pole Barn with Concrete Slab - Help on first steps

/ Building my first Pole Barn with Concrete Slab - Help on first steps #21
I'd love to use the stuff you call "zip strip", but cannot figure out how to get it in place in the slab. Would anyone with hands on experience please explain how and when to use the strip stuff for crack control on a slab? Thanks!

It is placed on the top of the wet concrete and then troweled flush into the concrete. It is made of plastic and sticks down aways into the concrete. Once the concrete has hardened, the top portion of the strip is pulled off (zip!) and a seam in the concrete is revealed. It is difficult to get the strips straight and requires a worker to walk across the concrete, set the strip in, and then trowel his tracks will coming back out. Sawing is easier and straighter in my opinion but the strips allow a weakened section immediately after placement.

So, timing-wise, its placed after screeding, or after floating, or after initial troweling? For least amount of destruction of finished work, I assume the sooner the better, so right after screeding maybe? If so, it seems that later operations like floating and such would depress the top of the "T" shape into the surface, only to have it removed later, leaving evidence. Sorry, I don't really get it.
