Water Softeners?

Just got mine hooked up about an hour ago. I agree about inlet/outlet system. That made things very difficult. How is yours doing so far?

I got mine hooked up about a week ago.

I only put 4 bags of salt in, just in case something goes wrong and I have to empty it out.

Two problems so far.

1. I don't know the exact hardness of our water, which is needed to set this up properly. So sometime later in the week I have to take in a sample to get tested. And,

2. There is a slight leak at the outlet of the water softener. I hooked it up with 1" pex and the tubing is putting some force on the outlet fitting, which is a funny plastic contraption with an o-ring seal.

The way to get this to relax into the right configuration is to drain the pex line and heat it with a heat gun until the pex turns clear. If I don't touch it as it cools, the pex will go back into position without this extra force.

I have been postponing doing this for a while while I figure out how to keep the heat away from the plastic fitting in the water softener, but I have an idea now and will do it in the next day or so.

P.S. If a moderator ever reads this, the spell check software is giving me a fit. Every time I enter "pex", it automatically gets edited to "per". Sort of an automatic misspeller. Is there any way to suppress this behavior?

Mine leaked around the outlet O-ring the first time also. I took it out and reseated it and it was fine after that. The first time I seated it the plastic snap rings were tight going into the slot. Second time I seated it the plastic snap rings had a little side to side play when seated in the groove.
