Killed my first copperhead for this year. Watch were your putting your hands. I broke my own rule about having a stick or shovel and had to waste a bullet.

Thanks for the heads up! I get kind of lax during the winter. These copperheads in Lee county just wake up mad.

I prefer distance in this situation. Pistol is much better than a stick or a shovel. Only good snake is a dead one.

Yes, but the trigger just feels funny with work gloves on. I swapped over to some cheap ammo for the ranchito. 1mag with fmj and 1with Speer gold dots.

I think shooting snakes with a handgun is going to lead to a lot of snakes surviving the encounter. I really prefer a shotgun if they are out of hoe reach. I've considered buying a Taurus Judge with .410 rounds, but probably my 12 guage long gun will be just fine. I've also found my cats seem to keep down the snake population, but they don't discriminate between good and bad snakes as I do.:laughing:

All the western movies I've watched would indicate you can shoot the head off a rattlesnake with one shot from the back of a moving horse.

Horses help keep snakes away from the barn, but they just lay in wait in the warm bedding and manure pile. Ohio has rattlers but around here only copperheads, SUPPOSEDLY. I hope they know that

That reminds me of an ol' carpenter who I was helping on a job. When driving nails, he asked me if I always hit where I looked? I said, "Sure do!" To which he said, "DON'T LOOK AT MY FINGER!"

Haven't seen any snakes here yet, but the weather this weekend has been super! 540-50's at night, then into the 80's, (nice in the shade) Great to be outside!!

I'm not even sure what kind of snakes they are, but we find some not much bigger than a pencil in the yard every year. I was mowing and using the string trimmer on the next door neighbor's yard a week ago and killed one with the string trimmer before I even saw it.
