Backhoe BH77 broke - defective part?

My 30 hour L3700 SU with a BH77 just broke the said pin. This is the second time I have used the BH. I called my dealer and they said they will have somebody come pick it up and repair it. I hope they fix the bent ears as well. This blows.

I thought there was a recall on those pins and they were all suppose to have been replaced? I believe someone here posted info about a service bulletin. I sure hope for all BH77 owners' sake that the new pins are not breaking also. How old is your L3700?

I bought the tractor last December. Like I said it is the second time using the BH. I was digging out a 8" oak stump that I probably could have gotten with a shovel.

I just got a certified letter in the mail there is a recall on my BH77 backhoe. The dealer is replacing the dipper pin, will have it this friday.

Those out there that have replaced the defective pin with a new one, is the new one as long as the old one? Dealer just replaced mine and it sits about 3/8 I side the BH boss. Looks odd. When my pin broke they said the dipper was still ok and when I looked at it after the "fix" you can see they put clamps on it and pulled it back together to get a new pin in it. Any thoughts?

Well, it has been a few months, but as I recall, the new pin looked exactly like the old one. Is that what you wanted to know?

Sort of, the pin that was put in as a replacement looks shorter and does not extend out to the end of the of the Hole in the ear. The boom ears were bent out when the first pin broke and the dealer used C clamps to bring them back together. Looks shady to me.

Yea this seams kind of shady I would have insisted on new parts. I replaced the pin on mine a few days ago and the new one was exactly like the old one. the ears on your boom might still be slightly bent, I think I would talk to my dealer about that, the bending and stuff might weaken the metal and cause another failure.

Can you post a pic for us to see? If it is still bent, I would try to get it replaced and short of that, insist on an extended warranty on that part of the BH, or all of it.

Stopped into the dealer today, the Bota rep looked at it and said to replace the boom. My dealer has really been as good as anyone could ask. They were not however able to do anything with the jerky 3PH. The rep apparently said it is what it is.

That's great they'll take care of you.......

It's too bad they don't use a shouldered pin that is threaded w/nuts on each end to help stabilize the assembly and keep the ears from opening up under stress.....

Any machine is only as good as it's weakest point.....:confused2:

Hmmm, I'm concerned. I haven't even tried my new BH77 on my 3300 yet as I've been out of town while it was installed.

Certainly going to be asking my Kubota rep if he's aware of any issues.

Mine should be back on Tuesday. Check with your dealer and see if you have the "new" pin in yours. I stopped by and looked at mine all in pieces, it is a big job and hopefully never happens again.

Hey guys, New one here. I have been reading you site now for about a year.

Last night my wife let it slip that she ordered me a BH for my L3800 (funny story but way to long for first time post).
So, I come in to work jump on here to read up on this $7000 dollar BH77 that my wonderful wife is letting me have and BAM,,,, Broke pins.... I do think I am going to have a long talk with my dealer today. Wish me luck.

O yeah, I have a jumpy 3ph, anyone know how to fix it !

I think you will be ok, It seems this was a problem on the older units that is being addressed, I would still talk it over with your dealer to be sure but the new units should be ok, if I remember correct it was a bad batch of pins and the problem was in a certain range of serial numbers on the backhoes. Anyway enjoy your new toy.:thumbsup:
