A few pics of the 1610 after a winter tire and rim upgrade. Fronts are 7X12 rims with 23X8.50X12 6 ply Tru-power tires and the rear rims are 16X10 with 12.4X16 6 ply Tru-power tires, each filled with twenty-two gallons of -32* washer fluid. Total width at the rear is now 60" instead of 44".

Looks great !! I like the wide tires as it fills out the tractor nicely.

I have used this combo all winter and through the summer with no problems at all. This is on a lot of hills that stress the tractor as a whole. Below is a chart of the tire specs compared to the original.

Stock tires:

8.3x22 = 113 inches RC, OD = 37.5 inches, rim width = 7 inches
5x14 = 72 inches RC, OD = 23.8 inches, rim width = 4 inches

wide tires:

12.4 x16 = 106 inches RC, OD = 37.6 inches, rim width = 11 inches
23x8.5x12 = 69 inches RC, OD = 23.1 inches, rim width = 7 inches

As you can see the wide tire ratio is a closer match than the popular conversion of a 9.5x22 rear tire that has a RC of 117 inches and a OD of 39.2 inches thus making the ratio more of a mis-match than the wide tire ratio.

Sure hope it helps others also. The difference on hillside slopes is like night and day. Again check each specific tire manufacturer, I did find some small differences in OD and RC, but not much.

Now that you've had the tractor for months with the new tire setup, how do you feel about it? If no problems, where did you purchase the setup and what was the cost?

Thanks!

How do I like the setup? Tell you the truth it was one of the best things I could have done on this unit since I live in WV and almost all of my land is from 0 to 40 degree slopes. I have one off the tilt-meters from R&B Manufacturing and there has been times it is at full 25 degree readings and I still feel safe on the slope. Know your machine, know your ground, have an OSHA approved ROPS, wear the seat-belt, and use common sense. I have approximately 160 lbs of fluid in each rear tire also.

Rims came from Hoye tractor on one of their free shipping specials (This was my Christmas gift from the wife in '09) I cannot remember the total cost but think it was at the $400.00 mark. They are a direct bolt on and custom made for you. Mine are offset as wide as they could build them. Tires came from a friend of mine who is a dealer, fronts were $100.00 total and rears were I think, $400.00 total. These prices were his cost at that time. May be more now and again may be cheaper. I know it is an expensive upgrade but If you have slopes and want to get the most use out of your tractor and not use a weed-eater as much this will help tremendously. I was very pleased all around.

Traction is much better on all surfaces except hard packed snow, the wider tires seem to float on top rather than bite in like the 9.5X22 and 5-14 sizes did. Still very happy with the results though.

My understanding is that the lug tires have more surface area and that is why they are better in snow and mud.

Those look great on your tractor!! Glad to know the ratio is within spec too. I would have loved to do that tire set up on my 155d but couldn't find tires that would match up the ratio close enough. Both my 155 and 2210 have a turf set up on them except my 155d had truck tires.

Hi just curious what setup you have on your 2210? I also have a 2210D and am thinking of changing out from the AG tires to improve stability on my hilly property. Did you buy the rims and tires from Hoye or go a different direction? Interested to hear what you have and how it works for you.

I got the Turf Tire Set from Hoye. I did some research but wasn't able to make it any cheaper unless I did some major fabricating and to me it wasn't worth my time to chop things up. Not that I didn't want to purchase from Hoye, but sometimes money is tight. Anyways I went with his setup and love it. No problems and I love the added traction and its easy on the grassy areas you don't want to ruin and great in the snow so far the last 2 years.
