VERY NICE Job AND pic.

Is that a chicken, turkey or hog house in the background ?

Nice lawn!
Can you post a pick of the striping flap? I assume this is a custom job.
I have been tempted to add something to my primary mower.

It’s actually a cow barn. We raise a bunch of beef cows and bale hay .... after my regular 40 hour job. So my zd mows some nice grass then some not so nice grass around the farm. By the time I get to it all it’s about a foot tall and takes twice as long to mow as it should, hence why I really wanted the 1511 model

It’s actually a kit from tractor bracket. You could make one easily. I’ve just been working so much I just bought it. It’s definitely a more noticeable stripe and once you make all your different direction patterns in spring it’s gets to be a deeper stripe after 3rd or 4th mow in that direction

I also spray my hay fields and go over my lawn as well with sprayer. So it’s got a lot of fertilizer on it and makes a better stripe Some of the farm yard weedy grass doesn’t make this nice of a stripe

I was so used to how well my diesel scag striped the lawn with no stripe kit I was kind of disappointed in Kubota cut. Hence why I put on stripe kit and the 1 1/8 blades

I have a SD 1211 and hate the blades. I am considering machining the spindles but I wondered could one not just buy the Oregon 396-814 blades and drill the center hole out to 1-5/16? We are only talking 3/16” difference in diameter should be fairly easy to do unless the blades are just super hard.

Blades are Hardened like pocket knives & Leaf Springs.

High Quality Drill Bits ran extremely slow in oil will not touch them & remember the Gator G6 Blades are 1/4 Thick.

MUCH easier to buy 3 new boss holders & have machined down : thanks again to gonnasellit.

Then you can run 1-1/8 OR stock 1-5/16 center hole Blades.

I finally installed my Oregon 396-814 G6 Gator Mulching Blades with machined down blade boss holders on my 72” SD deck.

They stripe the yard a lot better.
They cut the clippings MUCH FINER now  :D

I didn’t have any complaints with cut from stock 3” wide blades.

I’m cutting at 2-3/4 on the Dial which measures 3.5” blade height off concrete floor.

I like my ZD1211 72” RD but this ZD1511 72” SD takes mowing grass to another level

What do you find are the big differences between your 1211 and 1511 .. so far.

I was originally going to buy a ZD1511 RD but .. dealer couldn't find one. I'm happy with my ZD1211 RD after 370 hours.

I thought my 1211 was a smooth running engine until I got this 4cyl 1511.
It is way smoother & of coarse way more power & torque on my hills & thick grass around my farm.

The 1211 will cut it & pull the hills but it bogs down & don’t cut smooth.

You can’t make the 1511 bog down on hills with thick grass :D

The 1211 72” is fine on flat ground in thick heavy grass.

Hopefully I'll get this right.
The ideal depth of cut is .206 instead of the .200 shown in the pic. The diameter of the turned down section should be about 1.120".

Pictures of the mod:

I know you did this machining over a year ago, but do you know if the blade bosses are hardened steel? I found a machine shop that can do the work, but only if the parts aren't hardened.
So far most shops either fail to respond to my inquires, or won't do the work :(

/ Zd1211 blades #93
My machine shop said they were hardened Idk

/ Zd1211 blades #94
The .206" depth and 1.120" diameter are the correct dimensions as shown in the picture. The blade bosses are hardened somewhat but can easily be cut with standard carbide insert lathe tooling. I am a hobbyist machinist and had no trouble at all doing the machine work. Some folks are afraid do a mod like this due to the potential liability involved. If the modified blade bosses were to break for any reason (they won't) you wouldn't even know it until the next time the blades were removed. The blade bosses would still be held together by the washers. In fact the blades with the 1.125" holes should be slightly stronger than the originals due to the smaller hole size.

yep the 1st thing my machine shop did was a Rockwell test. Said they weren't a problem for them to cut. My hubs where almost a press fit, so I put them in the freezer and laid the blades out in the sun both for about 10 minuets. Everything worked great I've got about 15 hrs. on the new setup.

The .005" clearance between the hole in the blades and the blade bosses is a pretty tight fit on some of the blades, but better too tight than too loose. I have had to tap the blades bosses into the holes on a couple of blades. Can you tell any difference in the cutting action between the original blades and the new ones?

/ Zd1211 blades #97
Yes I see a big difference in the cut and it now shows a very obvious strips in the grass.
As for the tight fit on the boss it mainly depends on how much paint or powder coat is in the bore on the blade.
I find it makes it easier to install the blade, one less thing to have to hold while installing.
I definitely recommend this modification.

/ Zd1211 blades #98
I got the parts yesterday... Hopefully the shop will work on them, but they implied that if hardened that they would not. We'll see.

I put on the g6 gator blades on my 72 side discharge. There’s definitely more air flow out of the deck, but a lot more blow out from front of deck. With it being dry it covers the whole mower. Aside from that cut quality is about the same but it does mulch up clippings nice and leaves a better stripe.

I agree with every word. Same thing here with my 72 SD

What height are you mowing at ?
