Thanks for the link. Best price so far on the Kubota.

I like the GL1100 Lowboy due to it's 27" height. I want to put it on the back wall of the barn under a window, using a thru wall exhaust. It also has a remote start kit, which I can place in the house.
IF I was going to buy a stationary diesel generator, I'd looking HARD at an Isuzu powered set from Central Main posted above.

I've spent some time looking at those generators and they burn LESS fuel per watt and are a longer lasting unit than a Kubota powered set, folks that have them love them!

They have a longer continuous duty service life and cost the same or less than Kubota powered sets.

They are just plain a better unit!

Simply routing exhaust outside does not make for a safe install. To meet code on internal installs, there is also a need to bring in outside combustion air to the unit. There are also special firewall issues and fire safety devices necessary.

Some engines can be harmed by simply extending exhaust as it changes the pressures within the engine. The engine is designed for a certain exhaust system dynamics.
Not sure what you mean by firewall issues. It's a 40' x 60' pole barn with PLENTY of air infiltration. There will be no combustible's within 20' or so, the building is not occupied most of the time, and a CO alarm will be installed. It's diesel, not gas or propane, so there are no fumes to cause an issue.

As far as code goes, there is no enforcement around here. I doubt the rest of the building would stand up to a code inspection anyway.

The generators I'm looking at have OEM exhaust extension kits, so I assume they will not harm the engine.

There may indeed be some risk involved but I'm willing to take my chances.

All good info though, thanks for posting.

90cummins perhaps?
90 has a wicked cool/efficient hybrid system he's built, but no, I'm thinking of somebody else..... He's either in Maine or Vermont. If we get a pile of rainy weather here (cutting down my outdoor Fall chore time...), I'll drift back thru these pages and see if I can find it.

IIRC, the one I'm thinking of was probably a low-hour Cummins gen, maybe 20kw or so. Had pics originally posted when constructing a really nice dedicated remote gen-shed he built.... I thought of it for details on the thru-wall piping. Last finished pic was a Winter scene..... post-card worthy..... That said, I don't totally trust my memories on this ^, so nobody else should either

Good discussion, on the current pole-barn application....

Just donated to Samaratin's Purse, towards USA relief efforts (Canadian # is 800-663-6500). After watching a few vids from the affected areas, decided it was the least I could do. (Haven't donated to them before, but did note their name kept coming up recently).

There is a generator connection below.... fellow usually does HVAC vids, lives in the area, transplanted from Florida. He lives high enough in the local hills that he wasn't directly hit by the flooding documented (they are downstream from Asheville), but spent 2 days getting his gen running (had sat for a year).

Best Wishes to all in these affected areas, and may all your generators run long and strong !

The engines that can be harmed by extending the exhaust is when you put a restriction on it, I have yet in all my years heard about anyone destroying an engine by extending the exhaust with the same or larger pipe

First month of the quarter- shut off the house power and ran the Generac for an hour; checked the oil after a bit.

Our Eaton branded b/u generator (Generac 20 kw) ran well for ~3 hours last Sunday during a power outage. Also had a ~2 hour power outage last week and the generator kept things in order. So some real exercise during the last couple of weeks.
