By the spelling of plough, that is a UK version of a MF work light as it's known in the U.S.A. The wiring might be completely different than a USA work/plow light.
I would return it to Amazon, then buy the correct light instead of a universal light.

I might have to do that. I bought it off eBay.

I now see why you didn't buy an original MF231 worklight, $109 is outrageous IMO. It's not anything like my 135 work light, forget my previous reply please, and wire that light as in reply #15 and it should work.

I no longer have a MF231, unfortunately.
I have a Yanmar YM2500.
Sorry, I was going by your info under your avatar.
That further muddies the water, what is the wiring colors on the tractor fender, and which is which?

I’ve decided to take the tractor to my mechanic soon and let him wire the plow light. He has to fix the ignition switch and a couple other things also.
Since I started this project, I’ve literally blown (5) 10 amp glass fuses and (5) 20 amp glass fuses! I don’t want to burn up the wiring harness or catch the tractor on fire.

My mechanic works on diesels, heavy equipment, and passenger vehicles. He’s only a couple miles from me too. He’s very good and competent at what he does and has ALWAYS treated me well. I know he will get it fixed right and a whole lot faster than what I could do.
I’ve tried to work on this “small” project just about all day long and it feels like I’ve gotten nowhere.
I’m just pissed at myself that I couldn’t do it. Even if I did have a volt meter, I wouldn’t know how to use it!
I thought I was gonna have to go to the ER earlier because I was hurting very, very bad in my back. I’m almost at the point where I can go get a shower.
I could sure use a lot of prayers, please if you will.

I just got the little Yanmar on 11-22-2024. Me and my girlfriend took a 7 hour trip one way to pick it up. We had to stay in a hotel overnight in Alabama.

I want my mechanic to go over it and check things out. I’ll be doing the maintenance on it like oils/fluids/filters, but definitely not the big stuff. I’ll let Mr. Willie do that.

This little tractor will be used to keep me occupied, whenever I’m physically able to use it around the yard (garden & driveway) and on the local hunting lease (bush hogging & deer plots).

When Mr. Willie gets it fixed, I’ll post the final pictures of the plow light and tractor. I can’t afford any attachments right now or anytime soon, so they will have to wait.

THANK YOU ALL for trying to help me with this project. I hardly ever get any help from anybody and this meant a lot to me.

Travis R

The wires on the tractor were pretty much all painted green during the refurbishment.

The wire that I’m using for the Hot wire for the plow light, only becomes hot when the ignition is turned on, according to my test light.

The back pain is tension most likely. I'd take a Tynol and lie down for a while.
The light only working when key is on is a good thing. IMO

Not tension. I have an autoimmune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. It’s VERY, VERY debilitating I can promise you that.
I’m 40 and have been fighting it since I was 34. Had to give up work, I didn’t have a choice.
Tylenol is a joke when it comes to this. I’m on strong painkillers and a lot of times they don’t touch the pain, I have to go to the ER and get shots. Again, I don’t have a choice.
As of now, there is no cure.

@Travis_R My condolences. That's a tough and painful disease to have to deal with. I know that there are some immune modulating therapies available; anti-TNF agents, and JAK inhibitors;

I think that the human immune system is not particularly well understood at the moment, and many autoimmune diseases do not have truly specific and effective therapies, but not for a lack of effort on many people's parts.

All the best,

Peter

So I was able to mess with the plow lamp a little more this afternoon, but now I’m done with it. I don’t know what else to do.

Long story short, I found that the plow lamp is getting v feedback through the ground and I don’t know how to fix it.

Here are a couple pictures of it mounted to the tractor, although it isn’t wired correctly and has to be fixed.

What do y’all think about the reflectors on the rear fenders?
They’re a little bigger than the original OEM “Cateye” brand reflectors, but I still think they help bring out the little Yanmar’s beauty!

Thank You. I agree with you 100%. I can honestly tell you that after messing with the plow light on the tractor for most of the day yesterday, I literally cried in my bed last night because I was hurting so very bad. Excruciating pain. I thought I was gonna have to make a trip to the ER and get Morphine and Toradol shots. I hurt every single day. It NEVER goes away. The more I try to do, and stay active, the more I hurt.

Return the light to the eBay seller.

Run out to Harbor Freight and get this. Then the install is PAINLESS.

So you’re thinking the plow light is the problem, and not the v wire on the tractor? I’m just trying to understand. I’m not good at this stuff.

You need to use the forums with a computer. Your phone is doing very strange things here. LOL :ROFLMAO: 🤪:giggle:

Two wires to the R. of the steering wheel. Toggle switch +/-. Was on it when i bought it in 08. Still works AIS.. The headlight switch is on the L. front of the Dash. I've seen it had a rubber factory insert were the Red light switch was moved to from were the work light is now. Red button next to the Turn signal is the Horn. Red Button that came up on a thread.

I honestly think your hooking up wires wrong. A basic light either has 1 wire and uses the mounting device for the ground, or has 2 wires, one being a ground and one being the hot. This fixture is just wired weird. A green wire with yellow stripe is universally considered a ground wire.

Org. location of the Head light switch. You can see the opening were it was moved to on mine.

The Brown wire on the light is ground. Green is low beam, White is high beam.

I think something is going on with the 12v wire that goes to the ignition switch.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the key switch? I may need to run a new wire.

The ignition switch that’s on there now is an aftermarket switch made in China.
