Somebody been in it long ago from the looks. The Pin in the throttle shaft isn't even Seated back. After the Refurb paint. This is getting interesting.
I'm glad that you have a great shop nearby. I'm sorry but to me photos 1 & 4 look like a cracked block from here. I will hope that looks are deceiving.***UPDATE 07-08-2025 Tuesday***
I finally got to work the tractor and use the PTO over the weekend.
There’s good news and bad news. Although this tractor has been a nightmare, I do have some peace of mind.
Good news is it isn’t leaking oil from around the PTO Shaft/Seal like I originally thought.
I was also able to drop the tractor off yesterday to my local tractor repair shop to get the Throttle Shaft Assembly Repaired/Replaced.
Bad news is there’s a couple coolant leaks coming from between the cylinder head and engine block, on the right side of the engine in the front and in the back where the head bolts to the block. It isn’t much, but you can see it if you look for it. I had to add coolant after bush hogging.
Good news is Fredricks has approved to have the engine tore down at my local tractor repair shop and see if there’s a head gasket failure and to see what’s going on.
I don’t believe the block is cracked, but we won’t know anything until the head gets removed.I'm glad that you have a great shop nearby. I'm sorry but to me photos 1 & 4 look like a cracked block from here. I will hope that looks are deceiving.
Good luck.
All the best,
Peter
I sure hope there isn’t a problem with the block. It's going to be interesting after the shop pulls the head. I believe to see a big problem with the Eng. Block. It's there could Head also. They know it!!
Can you elaborate? There's potential problems and you can see it in the Pic.s if you know what to look for. The Eng. Head not all that big of a deal to replace. The possible Eng. block damage is going to be the big issue. Crack, Rust Etc.. Parts are not going to be that bad of a problem either. It's just what's involved correcting it. The good thing It's A JD. model. Same Eng. as the 850 I believe.![]()
