o thanks my one is the green model. how did you get the new baring on the shaft? i dont know if you read my thread about the enginner who made a shim or a spacer to fit on a compact of a guy i spole to which ment he did not need to take the azle to bits did you have fillings in the oil with the bearing breaking up ? thanks

billymc, is this what the back axle looks like on your 1500? This looks like a green Yanmar but appears to have a red rear axle setup.

If you could take a picture of your back axle that would be helpful to see the differences between the two.

I'm trying to understand the shim/spacer you are talking about. What should that do for you? My guess is that would be to repair a damaged shaft. The bearing itself still needs replacement.

Looking at the drawing for the green 1500, it appears you have no choice but to remove the entire shaft to get to the bearing. But you may not need to remove the axle/brake housing. The tapper in #27 seems to not allow for the repair to be made any other way.
My suggestion would be to break it all down and determine what you need. I know shipping will be costly but Hoye would be your best bet. Make one large order and know you are getting the correct parts for the job. The only thing I suggest is removing the the seals from the outer bearing and pack it with more grease. You can then reinstall the seals. They come with very little grease initially.

The photos below show the PTO shaft that is inside the rear axle housing. The sleeve that connects it. The original outer bearing from my tractor that had not yet completely failed.

yes that looks like the back end on my green model i will take a picture later to let you see. the spacer shim was to take up the side movement on te guys azle as he could not get the part to fix it.

Thanks for the pictures. Looking at them I'd say you have a red axle setup. I know the tractor is green but if you look at the parts drawing, the green axles have a solid cover over the brakes. The red ones have a removable cover and the housing is longer where the axles come through. Also only the red ones seem to have the square housing behind the wheel where the bearing is located. Yours looks identical to my red one. This maybe something to double check with Aaron at Hoye.

yes im just trying to figure out what is the quickest way to strip and repair someone said you can take the plate of in bellow and get at the nit that holds the shaft in without taking the pto shaft out. do you think that if i can get the bolt out from in bellow that i can then withdraw the shaft with just taking of the rear axle hub and slide it out to repair. i was thinking of sealed bearings to replace?

You can try to get the bolt out of the axle without removing the shaft. It will work I think if you have someone remove the housing with the shaft in it while you back out the bolt. The PTO is easy to remove if you need to. A sealed bearing is fine for the outer. Not for the inner bearing, it is lubed by the fluid in the axle. You still need a seal there.

so i definitely need to remover the housing and and brake cover that is one piece? is it a two man job for sure i thought if i could get the bolt out at the bottom then i could pull the whole lot off ?

If I remember correctly there's not enough room to back the bolt out all the way due to the PTO shaft. You can try it first. The bolts that hold the shaft in were very tight on mine. Don't use an open end wrench. The PTO shaft comes out easily once you remove the 6 bolts from the cover. You'll se the collar inside where it separates. One person can do the job. Having a press is the key to doing it. .

do you think its easier just to take the top of or less work removing the bottom plate and just move it bit bu bit till i can get the bolt out? is there a bit of weight in the case when i take it of? o the localgarage has a press im hoping it will be able to put the new seal in and bearing or did you replace both bearings and seals ? well i need to cut a bit more grass before i do it will it be ok still ok use ? thanks
