Re: yanmar ym1500 axle

thanks guys for the help going to start stripping it down tomorrow . will post how it goes.

morning guys ok have stripped down the axle on the ym1500 ok im putting some pics up to show you the strip down and is every body sure its a red axle? . ok its needing a seal and bearing outer left side. as you guys thought. so if its a red axle can you guys give me the bearing size? and seal size to order them? the inside bearing looks ok and the seal so not going to tough them .well check out the pics and any advice would be greatfull to get the bearing and seal ordered soi can get it put back together.hope to try and get the shaft and old bearing pressed out tomorrow . thanks P1010273 (2).jpgP1010274 (2).jpgP1010275 (2).jpgP1010276 (2).jpgP1010277 (2).jpgP1010279 (2).jpgP1010280 (2).jpg

Re: yanmar ym1500 axle

Billy, did you drain the front part of the transmission case also? See the link below for #18 if you are unsure of what I'm talking about.

It looks like it was very nasty fluid. Pull your pickup screen for the hydraulics also. Its the small covers on the right side of the axle housing. Don't skip this step, you'll be wasting fluid when you need to drain it again. Clean out the inside of the case very well. Replace the inner seal also while you are in there. It keeps your brakes dry. Don't risk putting it back together and having it leak after. I can't find the size of the inner seal but the place you are using should be able to run the numbers. If not get have a local parts store like NAPA (not sure if you have them there) check the size. Be sure to get an outer bearing that is sealed and check the grease in it before install. Use thread sealer on the plate on the bottom if the studs came out. I removed them anyways by using two nuts to loosen them so I could clean the mounting surface very well.

thanks for the info what holds the inner seal and bearing in place i see it says a snap ring but i just did the bolt from the bottom drawbar plate and cant see anything exce[t the cog that the shaft slide into?yes i removed the screen and will wash and clean it.will i need a press to push the shaft into the casing to remove the old bearing in the housing? and then when the shaft is out to pullt the seal axle cover and the part of the bearing still attached to the shaft? thanks

The inner seal is just pulled out. It needs to be hammered (lightly & evenly) back in. The snap ring stops the bearing from sliding into the case. If I remember correctly there is a rise on the shaft that keeps the bearing from sliding out. The hub needs to be pressed off first. Then the broken pieces can be pressed off. You may need to chisel the outer race out of the square housing. A press is also needed to reinstall the parts.

the outer race is that the section where whats leftof the bal bearing in my pic sit? if you look at that pic there is a lip is that part of the housing ?yes i think on the back of the shaft there is another collar that holds the inside bearing in place so it cant move out of the case the snap rig i take it sits into the inside of the case as i cant see it only the inside gog i can see ?

I would think a 10mm seal would be ok in that application. It's may move where the seal rides by 1mm but that may be good since it will be riding on a fresh area.

Yes the outer race is the part that the ball bearing are still with. The inner race is the part still on the axle shaft. The other part closer to the hub is the sleeve for the seal to ride on. Don't worry about the snap ring. Just pull the seal carefully and replace. It's good to coat the under side of the seal with vaseline to keep the spring in place as you put everything back together.
