Not if you keep it clean and cool (do not over work it) and fill the K46 with 5-50 synthetic not the 10-30 that deere puts in it. Also for very low cost you can rebuild the K46 or even upgrade it to a K58 for an additional $80. Search the internet for "K46 repair guide with pictures"

I had an LA135 had it 6-years was still going strong when I traded in for an X300. Just never liked the 135, X300 is a much better mower, should have purchased it the the first place. I'm not worried about the transmission if you maintain the mower it should last a log time.
