Winterize Power Washer Pump ?

I have an industrial electric pressure washer. The hoses are all quick connect fittings. I
use it at least weekly & on many occasions several times a weak. I keep it in an unheated
garage. I disconnect the wand from the hose & hang it on the wall with the trigger open
so that the wand drains. This is especially important because trapped water wil crack the
trigger. I used to do as the others with the windshield washer fluid. Now, I disconnect
all hoses & flip the switch on for a few seconds to get all the water out. What's left
doesn't hurt anything. I have been doing this for the last several years. Seems to me, thee
stuff from Sears would get a bit pricey over the winter. When I had the smaller Sears
electric washer, I carried it in the basement after using it in the winter.

I do just like Logan-- 2 ft piece of hose -- fill w/ antifreeze-- pull rope til AF comes out other side-- takes about two minutes. And I use it at times durung winter, too. A couple of minutes is way cheaper than broken pump! This is here in frozen ND. Don

Well, here's my solution. I took out the four bolts holding the pump to the engine and slid the pump off the shaft. The pump is now safely stowed in the basement and I can bolt it on or off in about 2 or 3 minutes.

I got this idea because a friend of mine takes his entire unit in the basement for the winter. I won't consider putting an item with a gas tank in the basement and my friend can't be convinced its a bad idea. My solution puts the pump where it belongs and keeps the engine and fuel where it belongs, outdoors. Thanks for all the tips.

What did you decide to do regarding your power washer in winter use?
Your comment about not wanting to put anti-feeze in and still use during the winter would suggest storing in warm area (basement?) would be best solution.

I think I have decided that I don't need to use it in the winter time. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I'll just pay for a car wash and stay warm and dry. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
