I mean, if a single pilot can fly an f-22, then why does a 737 need 2......
There are more reasons, but the easiest one to point out is liability. A 737 contains 1 to, what, 200 passengers? If bad things happen on that flight, there's an army of injury lawyers looking for new yachts. If an F22 goes down, it's just the pilot, except in rare cases where he couldn't avoid a populated area.

My wife was on bowling teams since she was a kid. I never bowled until we started dating. We joined a few leagues for quite a while. So did several of our friends. It's pretty fun. I was even league secretary for several years at my last employer. We had 12 teams. :)

I'm sure they can expense the people and their lawyers to bolster the short term gains.

The usaf was talking single pilots for tankers. Iirc airlines were as well

I'm sure eventually they'll have their way and that'll be 50% reduction in pilots.

They will automate at least one seat in the next 20 years. Maybe both moving forward… the public will also have to be comfortable knowing the AI at the helm, has no skin in the game. Also, based on our current NAV and avionics glitches in each new software load… a pilot will need to be there to fill the gap for some time. We are still in the very beginning stages of ATC being able to actually send route information and changes, directly to the aircraft… they have even trying to implement it for years, and the FAA has gotten almost nowhere.

Also, in an airliner, in civil airspace… if one pilot is working the problem, the other pilot is flying, talking to ATC, diverting etc… no one gets to eject
