Why I hate barbed wire!

Ha - the reason I checked my entire fence line the other day. Had one of the neighbors black Angus bulls stomp right thru my five strands of Ever Sharp. Sure he got cut but he also got to my green grass.

Unless you don't know. Out here in NE WA state - all the grass is now a light tan. Every single blade has dried out, turned tan and died.

I have a small green patch in front of the carport. I guess the bull could see it from across the fence line.

I let him stay until the following afternoon. Then he and I peacefully walked down my driveway and out my inner gate.

I like to use 4 pt, high tensile barbed wire for a string line on my 2x4 horse fence. I can pull it super tight, mark my posts, release it, drill my posts, tighten it up again to set my posts, then attach it to the posts so I can install my T posts. What's even better is it's under my 2x4 horse fence to discourage digging under it.

And maybe counting barb spaces might might save you some measuring post locations.

Twenty years...still finding it the wrong way. Have removed miles of it. This is not the way. Lol.

Just think of it as a big round magnet!
I found a discarded piece stuck to the tread on one of the tractor tires as well.

I found some when I was young stuck in my foot. Standard solution was iodine and keep tetanus shot up to date.

I know where all the barbed wire is on my place, and I don't go on yours.

So, I'm fine with barbed wire, even though my dad put some of it up in the "50's.

Good chance there's more goodies hidden along with barb wire.

Land here has changed hands several times in the last 100 years, and some of the bits of wire fence likely were put up before your father was born.

That would be an old fence, as my dad was born 112 years ago... lol

Well, more than a few of my fences would qualify, or at least I know that the wire is from the 1880s.;) Much of it is on old growth redwood.

Just picked up an old roll that was recently surfaced by a fire, and as I carefully picked it up with thick gloves on and the end tucked in, a loop popped loose and stabbed me in the face. Grrr.

All the best,

Peter
