15 years old, 3K hrs, 50% tires, and way too big for use in the woods, plus 15K more than my new 50hp was.....

That is not a good price. You can buy a new 110C for $56 k. That tractor will need alot if money thrown at it

That’d be like using a 50 cal for squirrel hunting. Couldn’t get it through my gates, park it in my barn, would decimate my lawn, not going in the woods, not towing it without a semi.

I did my first one slightly used. No tax, less cost, still had most of its warranty and was a good choice. But shopping bigger, used machines were so close in price to new unless they were at a bazillion hrs and beat to death. Spending a lot more for the bigger machine I wanted the reassurance of full warranty length, dealer hand holding, and being sure I wasnt buying some other guys problems. For others difference between writing a check for full amount vs making payments means new.

I’ve never bought a new piece of equipment or vehicle, but that’s not a very logical piece. How many people need a 110hp tractor rather it’s a good deal or not?

Used stuff is difficult if not impossible to finance unless you are a bonafide farm with a credit line established. When I was looking at used, financing was available as a personal unsecured loan at 17.5% only. Manufacturer financing on new has changed the CUT/SCUT market reducing the number of bargains which require cash on the barrel head. Then there are guys like my Dentist that can plunk down $35K for a B line KUB with a bunch of implements. If he truth were known he probably doesn't have any credit due to never using it.

I bought new 3 years ago after always buying used. Then traded for used when I found a cab tractor I could afford. The demand for smaller tractors is greater than utility sized farm tractors plus financing options make it easier to buy new. Most folks don't have 40K laying round and need financing. With good credit all you need is your signature.

Why buy new? Because - have you ever looked a the way most people treat farm equipment? Run it to death, _maybe_ service it (when needed), leave it out in a field somewhere, etc.
Easy to purchase somebody else's problems.

I didn't bother to price out a 110C, but from what I have seen close to comparable new is well over $80,000.
3000 hours isn't much on these units, our Puma 125 has over 10,000 hours.
I guess I look for a bit larger then some.

Getting the loan through my CU was easy. Finding a clean used tractor wasn't. I looked for months, then stumbled across mine at 10:30 the night before I was going to buy a new one; and really didn't save a lot of money. 2 YO with 179 hours, and apparently it was traded due to problems caused by water in the fuel... which I finally figured out after it left me stranded on the side of the road one too many times.
It would have to be a pretty darned good deal before I buy another used tractor.

It's a real tractor, with real wheels, ground clearance and some grunt. I have MF 135 and 47hp and those tiny wheels it has makes it very limited and without 4WD it's quite helpless. This forum is strange at times when people things a 60hp are a big tractor, even for hobby use 60hp are on the light side.

I 100% agree with you. I love my 10,000# tractor. It's the real deal. Most of the subcompact tractors are toys

my neighbor bought an old beater orange - manual steering which he hated and who knows what people did to it. bad shape and he thought he got a deal. and believe me he HAS $$$$. i bought a new one because i wanted some warranty or assurance that if something did go wrong i may be covered a bit initially. this way no one else could have beaten the **** out of it or not maintained it diligently. so i am pleased that i did buy what i have new and have never looked back.

I would be happy with a old MF590, of course some of the price I had to pay is wrench time but if you don't have the money you have to spend time.

Why buy new - well, to begin with because finding what you want/need is typically much tougher for a "typical consumer" and many times when you do - sellers mistake lots of tire kickers as being a sign they can price for 95% of new and get it.

Heavy equipment and compact tractors are different markets. Something like this is overkill for someone looking to maintain 5-40 acres of personal property. Running a farming operation as your day to day job - yes, this makes sense - clearing the drive and hauling firewood - its too much. You hear alot of people say you "can never have too much tractor" - sorry, but you can at a point. Right now its hard to keep a full time operation profitable for many, and if you wanted to start from scratch - most would probably say your crazy...legacy operations have what they need in place and paid down - carrying more debt would crush most start ups.

Different markets for similar equipment can vary greatly - financing options. Again, if a pro farmer needs financing on used equipment, there are plenty of loan programs out there and banks with experience lending on these type of operations. For a buyer who walks into a local bank/credit union and says I want a 13k loan for a "lawn mower" as many of these loan officers will see it - they are going to write the loan much more carefully - sure, if you have a debt to income and high score to warrant the risk - they'll make the loan - but riskier profiles in the eyes of a bank are tough sells - new the manufacturer finance program can lump these loans into packages and secure the financing for the buyer - no different than how Harley Davidson and ATV/UTV manufacturers and RV/Boat makers have done for years. They know their markets better than anyone.

3k hours on a machine like that wouldnt scare me - its clearly built to last the demands of a full time operation. Maintained properly (as you would assume someone who relies on the machine to make their income would do and keep records of) - stuff like this can be a bargain for the right buyer. 1500 hours on a small unit from a homeowner who failed to keep things up and never changed fluids/filters or greased the machine only to polish it up when getting ready to sell - your taking on a potential nightmare.

Why buy used when you can get 84 months at 0% financing on most brands.

For work in the forest to haul out wood you need ground clearance, a bit more ground clearance, and then some more and still you get stuck, many of these smaller tractors has almost the most tiny wheels that is possible to use and still be able to move.

I can't understand why

Then it must be flat and hard, this 2WD is not good when it sinks down and get stuck on the winch, had to winch my self out. 794818766.jpeg2104386259.jpeg
