Which Winch

I have had a Venom and a Gorilla and they both work fine. You can buy three venoms for the price of a warn. I plowed for 4 years with the venom and I would buy another. And I have a #3000 gorilla on my foreman now that works great, pulled me out plenty of times and a few friends. I think gorillas are under Promark now.

I want a winch for my Arctic Cat 300 ATV. I'm looking on Ebay at 2000lb to 5000lb Venom brand winch.

My question is: what are the disadvantages to the larger winch. I'm I correct in thinking that bigger may not be better because more amps needed. Or is this something I shouldn't be concerned with.

My uses will be getting the ATV out of places I shouldn't be and occasional light log skidding.

In answer to the question "as asked" - No.
Power has units of force times speed (which has units of distance/time).

A bigger winch will only draw about the same "power" (amps) that a smaller winch would, i.e. what it needs to draw for the same level of stuck'ness and speed of pulling.

Against the bigger winch; more cost and more weight, but you didn't ask about those (-:
