I have searched through the specs pages of Kubota and Woods and for the life of me, I cannot find the weight of any of these 3 backhoes. The specs pages seem to list everything except weight.

I am considering trading my BX2200 for a B3030. My tow vehicle and receiver hitch are rated at 3500 GVWR. The B3030 by itself is about 1900 lb. I think I will need to be able to tow the tractor and at least 1 implement at a time. The bh is the heaviest implement I would envision carrying. I am looking for the lightest trailer I can find that is 3500 GVWR, so I can get max. payload. I need the weight of the backhoes, though, before I can make the final calcs. 3500 lb GVWR - 1900 lb tractor = 1600 lb total for trailer and bh. I don't know if that's possible, but I am trying to find out.

Can anybody tell me the weights of: 1) Woods BH70X 2) Woods BH80X 3) Kubota BH75.

Also, are there any make/model suggestions for a trailer that's 3500 GVWR, but low trailer weight/ relatively high payload?

All assistance is greatly appreciated.

My B7800 is 1750 lbs + 402 FEL/bucket-900 lbs + loaded tires-400 lbs = 3000 lbs so you should figure on a 3030 w/ loader and BH weighing in at 4000 + lbs

For the few trips that I would make, it'd be the tractor only. I will definitely stay within legal parameters and within my self-imposed 35 mph speed limit on these quiet rural roads, but I cannot afford to buy a really large trailer and another vehicle for towing. I need to get the weights on these 3 backhoes and try to find a 3500lb. GVWR trailer that's as light as possible.

Tom,

If you are ONLY going to transport the tractor to and from the dealer, I would just pay the dealer the $$ to have he/she transport it for you. My dealer charges around $200 round trip. It would take quite a few trips to equal the cost of a trailer.

Another option would be to rent a UHaul/Ryder/Peske etc. truck and trailer to haul it with but the cost would probably be more than what the dealer charges you.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The U612 series on this page is the closest I have come to what I'm looking for in a trailer. Looks like the tractor and FEL would be within capacity. If I ever needed to take in the BH, I might need to make a seperate trip:

If you are limited to 3500 # total weight towed, then you are near or
over the limit without the backhoe attachment and one of those very
light trailers you referred to. Don't forget that CA requires brakes on
at least one axle if the total trailer+load weight is over 3000#. Brakes
are a very desirable when the weight of your load+trailer approaches
the weight of your tow vehicle.

I had dual-axle trailer made for me to my specs so I could tow it with
my V6 Tacoma truck. It is much lighter than a rental trailer but has
a nice smooth steel deck. It was only about $1750 with registration.
BTW, my TLB + trailer is above my 6K GVWR anyway, so I do NOT use
it to carry my tractor with hoe.

A friend has an aluminum trailer. And yes, it is lighter than the equivalent steel one, but it's wiggly. It is clearly not as strong as a steel one.
The biggest problem is that you can't just put a tie down anchor where you need it. They can only go where there's enough meat to hold the anchor.

I have a B7610 w/352 loader and a Woods Groundbreaker 6500 BH.
Rear tires are loaded.I dont know what the weight is,but it is less than the combo you are thinking of hauling for sure.
I haul it on a dual axle 16' steel trailer w/brakes on both axles(electric)
and my towing vehicle is a 04 F250 4x4 Super Duty.
Whatever you get trailerwise,i would make sure it is slightly overated for whatever you have in mind of hauling, with plenty of braking power.
Since i started hauling my tractor, there have been a couple of times some
moron pulled out in front of me from an intersection. Also a few close calls with deer. And you never know when some kid might ride his/her bike out in front of you.You just never know.
Anyway as carefull as i am towing it,there have been times when i dont know if i could have gotten stopped without the dual axle brakes. In a
anticipated stop, the brakes on the trailer alone can easily stop my loaded
trailer and my truck.But...theres always the guy who doesnt take the time to look and pulls out in front of you,or the deer,or the kid on the bike.
I hated to spend the extra $$$ on the trailer i have, but really,it is the one i needed and i'm glad i got it.What ever you get,be cautious. And if theres ANY way you can get a trailer that will safely handle the load, get it.You wont be sorry........digger2

I was at the dealer's today to pick up the BX after servicing. I looked at a B3030, a BH70X and a BH80X. We have a type of hardpan in this area that is actually sedimentary rock. The dealer said that he'd sold several B3030s with BH80X and that none of the buyers had reported any difficulties digging in the durapan with the bigger hoe. Price for BH70X was $6800 installed while the BH80X was $800 more. He offered to sell me a B2630 for $16,800 including FEL.

I just ordered up a B3030 with the woods BH80-X hoe. Two larger dealers in my area had sold many of that combination. I don't have it yet, but will report as soon as it arrives.

As far as too much hoe? I'm not sure I buy that.
Neither do I. You did good. Sure, if you let it the BH80-X might smack the B3030 around like it owes money, but the way I saw it there were two options:
(a) Get the BH80-X, let the B3030 be (arguably) the weak link, and know that I'm squeezing every ounce from the tractor/hoe combo there is, or
(b) Get a smaller hoe, max it out, and wonder the rest of my digging days about what could've been...

I chose (a). :)

P.S. - BH75 (c) was ruled out because:
  • I like my booms like I like my women - with a coupla curves
  • I wanted a thumb, as I'd have to say my own have come in delightfully handy over the years
  • A bent or broken dipperstick rod, well... even sounds painful
Also the BH75 / BH80-X price difference was coins.
