I got the 3 month one as it was 45$ cheaper than the next one up, which was 20$ cheaper from the next one up, which was 90$ cheaper than the 'new' one.. mind you.. the same starter int he same box was being sold as a rebuilt or new... :(

I always suspected they did something like that. So you're basically just paying for insurance/warranty at the higher price points. Auto parts retailing is a real shady business sometimes.

yep.. that's what I'm seeing.. paying for warranty.. and then hedging the bet that it will fail in a period AFTER the warranty.. or for the life time unit.. that they made enough on the initial sale to cover a repalcement.. if you still own the truck, and have the reciept when it does fail.. IE.. if 5ys go by.. they may be off the hook..

I've had better luck with $20 junkyard pulls than with $50 "remanufactured" units from the parts store...

back when i had my pontiac.. I almost exclusively used junkyard pulled parts to keep it going. I don't recall ever repalcing any junkyard parts either..

oem stuff just seems to last longer...

I still use the junk / salvage yards. Though they have less and less of what i need.
Not much of the old stuff and the newer stuff i have, its stripped to the bone quick.

But you can open up a lot of stuff and find out more about it.
Ever pull a nice looking alt, open it up and see only one side of parts cleaned?
Cheap rebuild.

Its mostly Mass rebuilders these days and you never know what you are getting.
Ever notice brake shoes, the ones you pick up never have as much material as the OEM.

My neighbor is having trouble with a 05 4cyl Colorado clutch, He is on the 3rd set and they dont match.
But did find A Chevy dealer that will work with him on matching a disc 150.00, But the pilot bearing is 18.00.

AZ and advanced is 60-70 for the pilot bearing.

scarry sometimes what you get with remanned parts.

I've seen relined shoes that did not have the pivot bores corrected from wear :(
