Most wheeled excavators use two differentials connected to a transfer case in the center. The hydraulic motor is then attached to this case to provide the power to the axles. Typically, both axles have steering.

Don’t want to be a bummer but I don’t think there is anyway you actually get a 3.8t machine for 6k usd. I bet once you start the process that 6k is for the common 1.6t tracked machine and they can get you the 3.8 but for more $.

Having had wheeled and tracked excavators (2 to 11 tonnes) - if you need to go off-road, you need tracks. If it's hilly, you need tracks. Wheeled ones are *wonderful* for doing little jobs all around the place, but you must have a decent surface to work from (stone/paved, flat). The slightest incline can be terrifying.

Many wheeled diggers don't have true 4x4, so get stuck easily. I've done it. Tracked diggers will slowly make a mess of your stone/gravel areas, whenever you turn. But you probably won't ever get stuck.

Stability is definitely definitely better with tracked diggers. They are much easier to use; fewer buttons, less wobble/inertia, greater safe lifting capacity. For digging, you'll always have the dozer down and ideally some struts; whereas with a tracked machine you often don't need to.

I can see a market for a small 3-5 tonne wheeled excavator to have as a backup to a bigger tracked digger.

(OP, that Aliexpress link seems to go to an "assistant device" - clicking the more-likely model name doubles the price).

Don’t give up your dreams, I wanted an excavator for years, finally got a baby one last summer. I sure wish my mini had a better ground speed, that being said I really love having it around. I just have to trailer it if the days task isn’t close to home. Today I used it at our pond, I added a ball to the tractors draw bar so I could have both machines to work together.

I made a counterweight/implement holder based on a 2” hitch/receiver. Holds the ripper, 8”,30” buckets, and rake.
It’s easy to remove for tighter working areas, but I rarely need to take it off. Added about 220lbs, which makes a difference on these mini’s for moving around heavy things with the bucket/thumb.

That’s what I thought I was looking at. An 8” bucket - ok, a 30” isn’t too heavy to pick by hand? Actually really nice that you can carry everything with .

The 30” is a bit heavy, but I can pick it up and change it out.
I did also get the “quick attach coupler” some don’t care for it but I like it. I have only used the quick attach, I installed it when I first got the mini, just seems easier than always changing pins, so far I mainly use the 8” and the 16”, pretty much defer to the tractor if I really want to move some material.
