Re: What\'s in your tool box? What do you actually use?

I usually have

A large crescent wrench
Pair of plyers
Lynch pins for the 3pt.
Extra pins for the MMM
Pins to pin the MMM up
PTO cover if the Cutter is on the tractor
Flashlight
Pair of Gloves
Large slotted Screwdriver
Large Phillips Screwdriver
Bag to pick trash up with while I'm mowing
Occasionally a hammer and a tool Dad made that I use to pull the pins out of the MMM

That pretty much covers what I can squeeze into the little tool box on the back of my 24. Biggest problem I have is that I'll forget to close the lid and I'll put the seat back down and sit down and bend the lid up. I've had to straighten it 3 or 4 times. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gifGuess I'm just a slow learner. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: What\'s in your tool box? What do you actually use?

One thing I DON'T have in my tool box, and it seems to be a common ommission among us, is I don't have any sort of a FIRST AID kit. Not even a band-aid. And I hurt myself. A lot.

Another good thing I don't have is any sort of bug spray like OFF!

I would probably use both of those things too often!

This time of year I don't go anywhere without a can of wasp spray /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: What\'s in your tool box? What do you actually use?

I can be about 1 mile from my barn bushogging trails so I try to have everything I need with me. Most used items are water bottles and gloves, but I have been saved by the extra lynch pins and clovis pins. Real tools are a small and large adjustable wrench and screw drivers. I've used the 20' tow strap a bunch of times too.

I've slimmed down to minimum due to no storage space. See the attached photo.

Left - a canvas bag, HP logo:
drinking water in a quart Gatorade bottle

Right - canvas bag, travel agency logo:
gloves
folding pruning saw
hand pruner
Harbor Freight float charger - so I can find it wherever I park.
Digital camera in a Ziplock bag! (this goes in the house overnight)

All the above are used continually.

And in the tractor's original tiny toolbox, infrequently used but stored there so I can easily locate them months later:
low-pressure tire gauge
adapter I made for filling tires (garden hose to tire chuck)
carton-ends showing part # of oil filter etc.
and a few spare nuts & bolts that came with the tractor

On my ford old tractors I have soft side kits bungied to the back of the pan seat/spring. On my NH I have a full kit bungied to a fender upright bracket. Also.. a fire extinguisher in the cab too.

( any sort of bug spray )

The ether I carry works double duty.. kills wasps in mid air or instantly on a nest.. also starts old cantankerous gas tractors..
And there is always a can in my gas job tool box.. save the naa.. which has very premium tool space under a running board..

The Oliver Super 55 that is in my photo gallery had one of those tool boxes under the running board. It was great for collecting silt and mud that the tires kicked up when the ground was wet. Even with a lid, it managed to fill up with gunk! I never used that thing. Then again, I really don't work antiques, I just buy them, fix them, play with them and sell them at a loss so I can do it all over again /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: What\'s in your tool box? What do you actually use?

Yep.. the naa tool box is almost uselss except for a flat wrench or two.

The ford design team normall had good ideas.. but a running board toolbox with no real drain.. just colelcted water, then rusted out. Thus you see tons of naa and jubes with a hole in the running board.. or with a fixed 8n board.

I made a new box and lid for mine.. perfed metal for the box so it has positive drain.. and 3/16 plate for the lid. Doesn't look oem.. but it was free except for a few welding rods.. etc.

The perfed metal is neet.. has holes in it like screened in room screen... bends along the lines pretty easilly..

olivers are great machines. I've got my eye on a 77rc that is cheap down the road a few cities away...

havn't built up the courage to ask for the checkbook again.. since I'm only on my 2nd payment on my NH 7610s so far
