Well if it's a rental then run it till it falls off! They won't give you trouble for welding on their bucket? Post up some pics of the trailer repair, keep up the good work brotherAll the welds were done with 225 ac Lincoln, 6011 and 6013. I enjoyed the project. The machine was a rental unit. I used it this past summer when he bought it. Bucket and machine look rough but hydraulics are smooth and strong. The trailer that hauls it might pay my light bill this month!it is in sad shape.

That's where experience comes in. I never use 6013, especially for something under stress but with 7018 you can purposely get the rod to fingernail when it's not possible to have the normal rod angle. This still lets you get an equal size fillet. It takes some practice to do but there are lots of times when welds are in tight quarters where you have to think outside the box. It looks like you might have some undercut on the brackets too where a crack could start.
It is also when the rod burns off to one side. Like something is wrong with the flux. Happens a lot.Explain fingernail. I always thought fingernailing is when the filler wire burns inside flux coating leaving flux extending further ( usually on a angle) and it looks like a fingernail.

I've been in situation where I had to put 2 or 3 bends in a rod to get to a weld. And maybe only get an inch or two of weld out of each rod. Also been in places where I had to weld 2 or 3-rods together to reach a weld.
