Welding on Mesh Protection?

I finally made it by to pick up another bottle of MIG gas so I can tack weld the wire to the brush guard. My question is: Do I need to remove the grill guard to do this welding? The reason I ask is that I don't want to mess up any electronics or such. You know how "fragile" these new babies....erhhhh-uuh... tractors are. :laughing: What does the brain trust say?

I say take the guard off.It will be easier to weld in the flat position and it will keep the spatter from marking up your paint.It will also give you more room to work on it.

Something as easy to pull off as the grill guard, better safe than sorry.
I think generally it is considered safe to remove the ground off the battery and ground the welder close to your welding.
