Ask your Ophthalmologist. He will probably tell you there is no safe way to view the sun except controlled professional/scientific equipment. Again as others have said is it worth losing your eyesight?

There are some good information about building a viewing device. The plus side is that the image is bigger then direct viewing.

Do what you feel safe with but I put on my No. 5 cutting glasses, turned my Miller auto to shade 13, turned sensitivity all the way up so it darkens just being outside and gave a quick glance, I'm talking less than a second, the sun looked like a dim light bulb. That said, I'm still not sure I'm going to look at the eclipse, just don't seem right to look at the sun.
