Nice thing about the shop is, it's power trowled concrete and it's 9" thick and has in floor PEX heat so the floor is always toasty in the winter and it's exceptionally smooth so rolling stuff around is very easy. Has to be think to support the machine tools. They need a very stable footing to be accurate. Even have an overhead crane in the north bay. Best thing I ever put in to change the oil in the motorcycles. I just pick them up with a fabric sling, pull the drain plug and drain the oil. No bending over or getting on the ground...lol. 4 ton air operated IR hoist on a rolling carrier that straddles an I beam that runs across the shop. I love any and all air operated tools.

My welding cart is a unit... I don't remember if I've posted pics in this thread yet or not but what the heck...

I found it at an auction for $50 and couldn't pass it up... the bones were there, I boxed in the bottom section and added the door on the side that just has a bolt with handle and a catch that catches the angle iron. I added on the back plate on the bench part and put a lift on the lid over the tanks so it would fit the big ol tanks I got at a different auction... I have a 50' generator extension cord that was on clearance on Amazon or something and was around $100 for I think a 6ga... The last couple modifications have been adding another hook for cables on the other side and adding a mount for the end of the extension cord on the cart and scabing a 110V plug to it so I can power that long power bar, also added another cross bar and a couple posts to stick the handles of angle grinders to so I can hold 4 angle grinders all plugged in at the same time...

Yes, my shop is a disaster and I have too many hobbies...

I got tired of digging for clamps under my welding table so I made this clamp rack that sits on top of a HF cart. Specifically designed so the clamps can be removed/replaced without having to adjust or close them. You can also remove any clamp without having to move anything else. Definitely helps maintain sanity....

Nice rack!
I have a whole bunch of those wire racks (top of unit) that were left at my house by the previous owner that I couldn't figure out what to do with. They are made to hang in peg board, but I hate peg board, so they have just been sitting in my scrap metal area.

Turned out that they are the PERFECT size to hold vise grips. The handle fits through the slots, but the clamp part won't, so now all my vise grip clamps have a home.

Genius!! You all have absolutely "great" ideas/thoughts and the ability to put them into actual use that looks and functions great!! I seem to have little skill in metal thoughts/working and am quite envious..

Gregster, that is very nice of you to say and I appreciate the props. However, pretty much anything you've seen on here that I've built is a result of looking at stuff others have done and adapting things to my needs/desires/abilities. If I was a genius, I'd come up with this stuff completely on my own.

In the case of the welder carts, I looked at hundreds of welder carts on the internet, etc., and then took the features I liked and put them all together in my "design".

It is, for sure, you don't want to be taking any hard corners.;) Also, the cart is made of sheet metal and has quite a bit of flex around the areas where the casters bolt to the bottom, so she rocks from side to side a little.

Have thought about adding a piece of steel plate crosswise between the casters to stiffen it up a little, but it works well enough. Also, if I did that, I'd have to replace all the caster bolts because they are just barely long enough now.

The rack itself is sitting on angle that runs crosswise to the cart and is not even bolted in, just sits in that top shelf, but that part feels completely stable, just the cart rocks because of the flex in the bottom shelf.

Fortunately, it doesn't have to move very far, maybe 10 feet max. from where it normally resides next to the table.

At the simple end of the scale: The MIG180 welder is on HFs small dolly, with added towbar.

Also shown - I replaced the welder's handle with aluminum channel, to wrap the cables around making the whole thing more portable. This also works as a two handed handle so its easier to lift the heavy welder onto the workbench.

The classic Ikea Frakta shopping bag makes a perfect welder cover. It's blue tarp material.

I use the smaller dual voltage IGBT welder more than this one and its simpler to store. That one fits in a filing cabinet drawer and is easy to carry to where I'll use it.
