VERY expensive beet juice!

So I have to ask, has anyone ever tried to lay the tire on it's side and break one bead and just pour the fluid in? You would need another tractor to lift the tire back up but it would make filling the tire very easy.

One would think it would work. Whether it would wind up being any faster, let alone, easier, I kind of doubt. But then, I'm rarely in a hurry.

I didn't do it with a 'large tractor tire' but the concept is the same as I did with my old Cub Cadet.

I filled mine with WWF at that time, and I paid 49 cents per gallon when I did it................that should give a good timeline.

Ya don't need to break the entire bead............just enough to pour the fluid in.

It's apparent that some in here don't understand Koi:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Here is just one site for ya: Pan Intercorp - www.koi.com - Koi fish for sale online. Quality Pond Grade Koi, World Class Tategoi Koi & Grand Champion Koi

Now Iffn' ya get time...........check out 'Show Koi'

Thats nuts...

And im a "Fish Guy" . Kept fish for the last 20 years. so i know the prices of tropicals. $25 Angels are my limit.

Tying that kind of coin up in an outside fish that can go TU, fly away or get eaten by the neighbours cat at a moments notice is crazy...

This is how my dealer filled the small tires on my SCUT. I did not specifically ask about filling larger tire, but based on his tire filling setup, I believe he filles all tires with this method. He uses another tractor (or forklift) to lift the tire after filling. He mentioned it was the fastest way for them to fill.

There are several things that can cause the fishkill you described.

One is a total freeze that can allow toxic gasses to build up.

The other is called a "turnover".........That is when the bottom layer of muck, gets too heavy............and you have a 'coinciding' cold front coming in with a lot of rain.

It changes the water so that it basically.............'turns over'............

The most noticeble thing will be that the water will be 'black' on top. I don't think you experianced this because you had surviving fish.............large fish usually die first with oxygen depletion.

yep.. BOD or bio chemical oxygen demand. same deal I mentioned about sugar laden material. real hard on water with aquatic life in it. WAY worse than salt addition. salt addition won't directly kill fish in the amount we are talking about.. same amount of sugar residue materials COULD though, due to secondary effects....

Soundguy - I'm guessing you are suggesting diluting the RV antifreeze that is sold in stores?

Our RV antifreeze is made of gold here in Canada. 4 literes - just over a gallon for $9.49. It is fancy Prestone stuff and is meant to be used straight without dilution. Apparently it is good to -50 Celcius. On the downside it is more expensive that beet juice!

I'll try to see what bulk prices are like. Perhaps the Napa store or a wholesaler has a good deal on WW fluid in bulk as well.
Last year I bought RV antifreeze for $1.79 a gallon at WallyWorld. It was late winter/early spring long after most people worry about winterizing (you either did it by then or have busted up stuff). If you guys that want to load up the tires can wait until Feb., you can probably get a better deal.

Also, The stuff that I got provided burst protection to -50F & not to further dilute. Looking at the DOW PG curve:

So what I have was probably diluted 50/50 already. I did not realize this and did dilute by 50% so I am down to 28% glycol. This means that I have burst protection to - 5F or so (although it will start freezing at approximately 15F). However, the worst that happens is that the stuff freezes in the tire at temps colder than -5F. In western PA it is not common for the temps to get this cold, but does happen occasionally. It's not like the tire will burst as if the anti freeze were in a pipe. It will just turn into a solid. Nonetheless, I'll add more 100% PG to get the burst point down to -20F (30% glycol by weight).

It does seem crazy, but honestly, when I bought my Koi I paid all of 4 dollars apiece for them. They were only about 3 inches long at that time.

I'm finally back in town and my tractor deliver is set for Tuesday. WWF is going to be ~$370 and beet juice is $630.

I'm thinking the extra weight at that price difference might be worth it. Thoughts?

I STILL say you Canadian folks are a tough sell. (get the WW wiper juice) $260 is still $260

I don't understand why people mess with stuff like "beet juice." Good grief, just use water with antifreeze in it.

I've priced out water with PG anti freeze and it is not particularly affordable in the temperature range I need it to be (-30 degrees C).

The cheapest stuff here is -50 rated and $12 for 2.5 gallons. At best that could be diluted to 50% for -25 degrees. That is $432. Less convenient than WWF or Beet Juice as it comes in 2.5 gallon jugs instead of 55 gallon barrels. It will have a a freeze point higher than both. It weighs as bit more than WWF but less than beet juice.

Thats why.

I say for the extra $260, go with the beet juice... heavier, non-toxic, and when you look at it compared to the total investment in your tractor it is a no brainer. In addition to the extra weight, you will have the peace of mind knowing you have the best product for your need.

the 'non toxic' issue is a moot point.. there are nt af mixes available..

it's what I would do.. however apparrently, some palces are ripping people off on the price of antifreeze.

here in florida it's not a huge selling item.. and thus it's affordable. apparrently in some places af costs 2-2.5x a gallon more than it does here.

that makes a huge difference in a water/af fill in fl vs say michigan or canada..

i personally like the af product. if I need to pump it out.. I can actually re-use it in a radiator if needed ;)

Update: I've changed my mind and decided to go with WWF. I'd prefer to get my tires filled sooner and the WWF can be delivered quickly for no charge. Besides, having the cast wheels already helps with weight.

Also realized that my diesel tank is running low and diesel ain't cheap these days.

3x$120 = $360 for 165 gallons of WWF good to -40 degrees. I have to pay a deposit of $50 per barrel but I will get that back right away when I return them. I'll have to keep one barrel around for the 15 or so gallons that are unused - unless I can find another spot for it.

Wish I was getting it for the kind of price FarmwithJunk gets it for but for around here in Canada these prices are the best I can find.

I know your not interested in gallon jugs, but i just saw a commercial for wal-mart where they have WWF on for about $1.50 (IIRC) a gallon! Cheaper than bulk! Didnt notice the freezing point, but its likely winter fluid at this time of year.
