Vacuum Gauge?

If you still want a "gauge" I've seen vacuum gauges that read in inches of water, some in really low ranges like 0 to 2 inches. I've seen them in the range of 0 to 25 inches of water vacuum too. I did a quick search but couldn't find one, but I know they're out there.

So you buy the $19 gromet mount version(FIL 4801) from Napa, remove the grommet and connect a hose. Drill a hole in the top of your dash panel or hood and run the hose down thru the hole to the intake manifold port. You make the hole so it is a tight fit(press fit) for the hose installed where the grommet was located on the filter gauge.

Great idea to save a few bucks. I went to NAPA and picked up a dash mount unit for my tractor & a thread mount unit to install on my Dozer, plus a bunch of other stuff all at 25% discount during their 3 day brown bag sale. I have not yet installed the dash mount unit on the tractor, but just finished installing the direct mount unit on the dozer.

Below are a few pictures of the direct mount unit.

The Dozer had a 1/8"-27 threaded plug in exactly the right location to measure inches of water column of vacuum. The thread mount Filter Minder came with a 1/8"-27 threaded nipple that screwed right into the Dozer intake manifold plug threads, so it was super simple to install:



Now I don't have to guess when to replace the filter. The cool thing about these is that they lock into position, indicating the highest vacuum achieved so the engine does not have to be running to note the reading. There is a push button to reset it. I started the dozer and partially blocked the intake and sure enough got a reading, so it seems to be working as advertised.
